Franklin and Tucker are still in it. My friend said Scott will make Riley tell him no before moving on.

The biggest difference between this higher and higher end of Ed is that Scott has the nuts to go after big names. Joe did not shoot high. Joe always looked for the best available and would not put any effort into getting a big name.
Joe's tactic was to put out feelers then negotiate. Scott will put his dick on the table and say you have to turn me down before I take it off.
This is by no means saying we are getting Riley. But Riley will get an offer it will be his to turn down.
Riley checks all the boxes that Scott is looking for. He is an innovator has won consistently at the power five level. He is a good recruiter and has a little baggage with him.

Why has Riley not brought in a great defensive coordinator? He would already have 2 or 3 national titles at Okie if he had a big time DC.

I don't think it's as much about the DC as it is the players. There is much better defensive talent in Louisiana that Riley could recruit easier than he can currently competing with the Texas schools and the SEC. DC is important, but talent matters more.

A great DC can turn around a scroungy defense immediately. Grinch may be respected, but he is not a great DC. I just can't see Riley and Grinch going toe to toe with Sabamm.

Neither Riley nor Kiffin has ever fielded a big time defense. I feel pretty sure both have brought in adequate talent on defense, yet they continue every freagin season to suck on defense. This is a big concern for me.
