Riley isnt leaving OU because he knows he can and will win it all with Caleb Williams.
Tell him to transfer.
Seems to be pretty common.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but can you throw a link in?

Also he heavily considered LSU in highschool

Riley may feel that he has a better chance of winning it all at LSU, how do you know?

Why pay more than Saban money?
Riley has zero national titles

That’s a recruiting and coordinator problem. A Riley-led LSU squad would be able to pull any dc they wanted and have a much deeper recruiting base for defensive players.

When has the Big 12 ever been about defense?

quote:Never. But you can't get through the playoffs without one. I think Riley is a good choice for our new HC (though expensive), but I don't think we can just assume he can waltz in, find a great DC, and have us on top of the world when he hasn't shown the ability to do so. It may happen, but it's not a sure thing.
When has the Big 12 ever been about defense?
Riley is going to have to rely on a DC in the same way that Aranda would to have to lean on an OC. ...But everyone seems to be just brushing that aside as if it is just a given that we will have a solid D.

Alex Grinch is a highly regarded defensive coordinator.
(a very big) IF Riley is the hire, it would be a huge coup to land Grinch as DC as well.

DC at OU just doesn't seem like an appealing job. You have to work twice as hard for half as much when it comes to recruiting on defense because you're battling the reputations of 1) not having a defense and 2) the big 12 not being about defense. You also don't have a natural recruiting base.
Why bother?
Oklahoma's opening defensive depth chart starters were five 3 stars and six 4 stars. It certainly could be *better* with those numbers, but by comparison we opened up this year, after all our issues with attrition from the 2018 and 2019 class, with three 5 stars.
I think you could argue every SEC West school is a better DC job than Oklahoma.
With a high flying, fast paced offense, you're almost never going to have a statistically elite defense. Our 2019 defense was just OK for much of the year, and grew into pretty good by the end.
