Sterlin Gilbert would be a solid hire

Before deciding, do your homework. Gilbert has been a solid OC everywhere
If Gilbert is the guy, I think it’s a solid hire. If not a home run, it’s an off the wall triple.

Good post.
Would be an excellent option with Yurcich, Cumbie.

I agree. I was on the Briles train as well but I would absolutely be happy with Gilbert. Same offense without the baggage that's hanging up the admins on Briles.

Agree except its USF not UCF.
Using a little twisted logic, if O spoke with Kiffin about an OC candidate and Briles was an initial target, maybe Briles then gave O a reference on his dad's former colleague Gilbert who comes from the Briles coaching tree.

It doesn’t hurt to repeat that he is great with qbs.
A guy I work with is a USF alum and he said most of their fans aren't too happy with Gilbert. Said he didn't know how to use Flowers. Although, looking at the stats, other than completion % and QBR (

His comp % went down from Taggert's Offense to Gilbert's O. It wasn't much lower. Flowers 2016 #'s was very good, it's hard to put those 2016 #'s up in back to back years.

I think he was optimistic that Flowers was going to make a backdoor heisman run. Know nothing about that.

Gilbert runs the same power spread system, but he ran it differently in his time at Texas. I prefer Briles’ version, but Gilbert is still a very good option that comes without all the baggage. I also think we would transition to his system without too much drama, and he could make either Brennan or Narcisse successful it in. If Briles Is a no go, make Gilbert an offer and let’s move forward.

The completion percentage is a little troubling. It was a nearly 10% drop from the year before. But, USF's only problem was they had no defense and they still finished 10-2.
He's always been a QB coach as well as OC:
2012–2013 Eastern Illinois (OC/QB)
2014 Bowling Green (OC/QB)
2015 Tulsa (OC/QB)
2016 Texas (OC/QB)
2017–present South Florida (OC/QB)
Prior to 2012 he was coaching HS and in 2005 was a GA at Houston under Briles so he's only been coaching at the college level since 2012 which would make him relatively inexperienced, but with a solid yet small resume.
Just speculation, but this could be the angle used by O to hire Gilbert and insert Ensminger as co-OC. Not saying I agree with it, but it would fit what O wants.

I’m for the best hire. Very important we get it right this time. Can’t make a rushed or knee jerk hire. Some major thought needs to go into this one.

Jeremy Pruitt's first college assistant position was in 2010 and he's an SEC head coach right now.
