Blake Anderson- Current Soutthern Miss OC
Ellis Johnson- DC USCe former Alabama, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss DC
Sonny Dykes- Louisiana Tech Head Coach

Im sure there may be a surprise candidate or two come out of the mix.

Im hearing that those three will interview within the next week. Personally I think that Johnson is the favorite.

Nope

Actually Southern Miss' AD Richard Gianini just retired yesterday but he will be the person who hires the new HC.

I want to keep him, but this is a job Gus should go after. Easier to win vs Vandy, etc. and he can parlay that to a bigger job.

I dont think that Southern Miss can match the $1.3 million that you guys are paying him.

Gus would have to take a pay cut to come to Southern Miss. Not sure if he is willing to do thtat. However like you said its easy to win at Southern Miss and can help him land a big HC job like Fedora did.

It would be interesting to see what he'd do if they offer ~1 million per. just me, but I'd rather coach at southern than Kansas.

Dude isn't head coaching material.

He has never even been a coordinator. I highly doubt Southern Miss is interested in him.

So would I!

Better place to live in Hattiesburg
Better recruiting hot bed in Mississippi and 90 miles from New Orleans and Mobile.
Great weather year round, and close to the Gulf Coast
Plus at Southern Miss you can easily win 8 to 10+ games a year.
Houston and Central Florida leaving for the Big East means Southern Miss should dominate the conference.

I guess it depends on if Gus is more about the money at Auburn or becoming a head caoch.

Alot of the USM fans I've heard on the radio and talked to said Frank is not in their top 5 of who they want. Now the pres or new AD may feel differently. I love Frank. I think he's a great recruiter and talent evaluator, and I would like to see him better himself.

But. USM doesn't have alot of money to throw around to asst coaches and I believe Frank would have to hire a good OC/DC since he has done neither. With Fedora, he could run the offense and hire a decent OC and pay a little more for a good DC. I believe he needs some coordinating experience before he jumps to the head coaching ranks but that's just like my uh opinion man.

Fedora was the OC at Oklahoma State before Southern Miss hired him, so I fully expect them to hire someone with OC or HC experience and not just a SEC position coach.

Ole Miss tried a hire like that and we know how it turned out.

Hearing a lot of steam is building up for South Carolina DC Ellis Johnson.

He has been DC a lot of places and was head coach at some 1-AA schools (The Citadel and Gardner-Webb)

Bump

Anybody hearing any new names?

I heard Shane Beamer's name. He is Virginia Tech HC Frank Beamer's son.

Im hearing that Southern Miss' athletic dept may be lowballing and looking for a "CHEAP" coach and that likely means that the OC or DC will be promoted.

That's dumb. They should build on what they have.

They don't have the money. Southern Miss's athletic department is one of the poorest in Conference USA.

I agree they should try to build on what they have, and think that their head FB job is a great job, but it wont shock me to hear them name OC Blake Anderson as their new HC.

Also, they can't pay top SEC coordinators to come to Hattiesburg and be their head coach. Malzahn made more than Fedora this year as did Smart and McIlwain.

I told you guys that Fedora was gone as soon as he had a good year. U are now nothing but a stepping stone mac like school. I hope he rots in hell after the way he treated Bowers to cover up his pathetic arse. True POS

Gianini actually announced that he is going to retire, but he will be involved in the hiring of their next head coach. That's why I think they will hire from within.

I agree with you 100% about Gianini being a POS for treating Jeff Bower like he did.
