Some Questions About Helfrich's Offensive Style...

Helfrich's offensive style is considered "up tempo spread to run", what does that mean for LSU IF he'd get the job? I was looking over some comparisons between he & Kelly at Oregon, the pass to run ratio seems "about" the same, I read a stat that said the Ducks ran the ball about 2 more times per game under Kelly vs Helfrich. It seems like both Kelly & Helfrich liked the "dink & dunk" passing game-short passes into space. Would that work with the quality of LB's in the SEC? There's also a lot of East-West runs; & to me, that's where the Ducks struggled the most against SEC defenses. Also, what about the speed element, would he come here & try match his 2015 avg of 1 snap every 17.3 seconds? Also, would he recruit smaller/quicker O linemen for this scheme? Can't imagine that'll go over well against the likes of a bama D line.
I just don't know if I like that brand of offense because I don't know if it would transfer over to the physical SEC on a week to week basis; it never fared well head to head.

LSU beat Oregon under his tenure as OC. Held them to 27 points. Does this answer your question for his offense in the SEC?

Helfrich would be a terrible hire. O won't go for that. We need a power spread offense, not that finesse, up tempo BS

O wants more of a Power Spread rather than Oregon's Spread option.

Our offensive weapons have more potential than Oregons. The problem is coaching. Hell we scored 50+ on A&M with a TE coach calling the plays.

Considering that he could have a better chance of having an advantage in the trenches here...not really.

it is called using the WHOLE FIELD. you think Urban and Gus don't use horizontal stretches to get guys running sideline to sideline then gash them vertically?

A defense that goes down as the best LSU has ever had and some say one of the best ever in the SEC.....they put up 27 points. When's the last time you saw LSU put up 27 points on a perineal top defense?

They had Royce Freeman put up almost 2k rushing yds last season. He's a pretty big back and has a somewhat similar build as D Williams.

Lsu offensive line already doesn't go over well with Bamas dline

At O in 2011, 6 of his offensive weapons went to the NFL and 7 more on D and ST. They were the PAC 12 champs and ranked #4.
I do think he had quality talent and still lost to an SEC defense. So I think this is a not the best argument.
Sure his offensive style then will put up a lot of points at LSU, but our D will allow a lot of points as well without rest. We can score a lot points with a modified pro style with some RPO and control the ball and TOP. We just need a creative mind that can adapt to our talent and strengths. Myer did it at FL, Kiffin at AL, etc. Then both sides of the ball will dominate.

Read this article and tell me why you wouldn't want this guy.

Oregon fans seem to think that he leans to a more traditional power running out of the spread style. He tried to maintain Chip and Frost's more spread style though because it works better with their lack of talent.
Not saying he's a great OC, because I don't know, but that is what Oregon people say. They also say he's a brilliant football mind, weak recruiter, and very odd person. Sounds kind of like Aranda (although Aranda can recruit a bit).

Re: LSU game in 2011 - check out Oregon's starting lineup and their recruiting rankings. Oregon started guys in that game who wouldn't be on the 2 deep the past couple years. Check out the stats too - Oregon outgained LSU by 62 yards. LSU was more talented and Oregon turned the ball over several times to put LSU on a short field. Bad combo.
Helfrich doesn't run the ball as much as Kelly. He doesn't run the QB as much as Kelly did either. I saw a stat somewhere that the balance under Kelly was 55/45 in favor of run, when Helfrich took over it flipped the other direction.
Helfrich is pretty adaptable. They started off the year with a lot of 3-4 receiver sets. As receivers got hurt and the OL situation got worse he went to more double and triple TE stuff. Kelly ran a fair amount of bubble/at the line/behind the line stuff. Helfrich is more of a downfield passing game guy.

They still didnt have the kind of weapons they would have here.

Im sorry, but Oregon might have had a couple of key guys with the talent level equal to LSUs but accross the board its a totally different animal. This is a very good argument.

A truly amazing quote by one of the top coaches in college football, Chip Kelly acknowledged after the loss to LSU that the Tigers and the SEC simply have another caliber of athlete. Kelly pointed specifically to the defensive linemen which isn’t surprising considering the beating they took in consecutive games by the Auburn defensive line and the LSU defensive line.
“They got a little bit different athlete running around out there,” he said. “Look at their defensive linemen. Standing next to them, walking off the field, they don’t look like a lot of the guys we see. That’s the common trait.”

He got away from the super fast paced offense once Kelly left and went with a more balanced attack.. At least that's what wiki sad

A big misconception about the chip kelly offense is that it was soft. Is it zone blocking? Yea. Did they like to utilize outside runs? Yup. They also would often lead the ncaa in yards between the tackles. And frankly I would value the opinions of a fan who wants to only run dive plays into the A gap all game long.

Our D didn't seem to be allowing a lot of points when they were on the field the whole game when our offense was unable to stay on the field so this argument sucks

Lol, Oregon was one of the first schools to be running power out of spread formations.
