Helfrich tutored under Dirk Koetter, who was ASU's coach in 2005 when we played them. He's a 4 verticals passing guy (think about the offense Brees operates).
Under Kelly, they were a lot more of a power running team but it wasn't until they got Mariota that they could really expand the passing game (due to his immense throwing abilities).
I would think his offense would be some type of mesh between those two identities. Downhill running and a vertical passing attack, at its peak.

I think he could likely implement an offense that works at LSU. My biggest question mark on the guy is his play calling ability. Could he do it all on his own? No Frost/Kelly to lean on.
From what i have read about him and from Oregon fans was he was great at scheming, but didn't seem to be able to execute plays in-game. That's why Kelly always did it. When Frost was there i am not sure who called the plays, though. I've heard various reports on this.
Eta: some other posters on another thread cleared a lot of this up. I think he would be a decent hire for LSU. Not at the top of my list, personally, but i would be cautiously excited if we scooped him up.

Dude - the LSU defense that beat Oregon is the greatest college football defense of all time. And they scored 27 on it. I would call that damn impressive.
