Well with one coach there's upside. With Orgeron there isn't.
No one in their right mind thinks Orgeron could ever win a NC.
I like O and he definitely had some wishy-washy games this season that needs to be stopped next season. No more Troy type losses, no more butt kickings by Miss St, and no more getting down like we did against Auburn in the 1st half.
I was impressed how we physically hung with Bama for the 1st time in a while, now he needs to beat them.
O still looks like a deer in the headlights on TV and seems to have trouble saying anything but "Geaux Tigers". He has that look about him that says "they really gave me this job".
I would hope he acts different than that behind the scenes. Players seem like they play hard for him and hopefully his recruits will be studs.
I didn't want Jimbo or Herman...If O fails, we'll get a new AD and a HC...Until then, I'm ok with what he has accomplished and hope he gets even better.

I mean it's a big time hire, but does it really reflect poorly on LSU?
The subtleties of why he didn't leave for LSU really don't matter - it's all about public perception. He coached at LSU, won championships here, but spurned us and stayed put.
Now, he's leaving for our rival, which has less talent and is located in the middle of nowhere. So yes, it's a bad look.
So what changed? Does Jimbo really go from wanting to stay at Florida State for the rest of his life, to suddenly wanting to get out of Tallahassee as quickly as possible? Doesn't seem likely.
Instead, it seems like A&M decided to make a commitment to their football program, and is willing to invest heavily in winning at all costs. Instead of trying to find to the most cost efficient solution, they're going all out, and know what they want. We've heard about these rumors for weeks now - they obviously had their sights focused on Jimbo, and aren't relenting until he says yes.
This is how Michigan got Harbaugh, and it should have been how LSU got Jimbo last year.
Instead, our AD wanted to protect his ego, and didn't want to grovel and throw around money that he think would be "wasted". He didn't want to play the game - which is something you have to do at this level if you want to be the best.
He went with the cost efficient solution in which the target had to beg him for the job. Joe didn't want to hire a bigger man with a bigger name, because that would require him having to grovel and plead and make the contract and conditions work (which is his job). No, he had to do it "his" way and show that he was in charge.
And LSU football will suffer because of it.

A&M is a better job than LSU by a pretty wide margin.

ALL OF THIS, except it wasn’t the “cost efficient solution.” It was the “lowest initial cost solution,” which could easily end up being far more costly than the alternatives in the long term.

Look...i like Jimbo. I think he is a great coach, but if he was wanting the high salary AND that $40mil buyout from LSU I get why it didn't happen. Jimbo doesn't guarantee you hardware by any means. Yes he gives you a good chance, but a buyout like that is absurd, imo. The one Alleva really screwed up on was Herman, imo. I wasn't happy about the O hire.
This isn't a defense of Alleva or disparage Jimbo post. It's just stating that Jimbo is not a Saban or Meyer level coach. yet he's gonna get paid like one. Maybe it will all be worth it for A&M long term, but the buyouts he wants are just too much imo.
