The fact that Riley's name is leaking out tells me its not Riley.

I want Riley as much as the next guy, but I absolutely agree with this.

Woodward has his man IMO and is buying time and keeping attention off his man.

I know. I Wasn't laughing at you.

Kelly may be a good coach, but like you I want the younger, offensive minded guy. The only defensive coach that I wouldn't be disappointed with would be Aranda.

These are all very sounds points. I think Billy Napier is more likely to be the coach. But underpinning that logic is that people, including Riley probably, typically don't completely think things through when making big decisions. It's the intangible stuff that normally drives these situations. If Riley is thinking rationally, he would very much consider coming to LSU. Once OU is in the SEC, he has virtually no shot at winning a national title. OU turns into an 8=4/9-3 type program and they lose the one appeal to them from a recruiting standpoint, which is their national brand. 8-4/9-3 and 4th or so in the SEC pecking order is going to dry up their pipelines in CA and FL.

That's not true at all once Ou joins the sec. We said the same shite about Texas AM. Look at them now? They've finished in the top 10 for like 6 season since joining the conference. They couldn't say that at all in the big 12. They've elevated their program. Same will happen to Texas and OU

Everyone keeps saying ou joining the sec makes it a worse job. I think it makes it a FAR better job. But that’s just me.

Exactly 1000%

People are just grabbing straws about recruiting, their play will suffer etc.

A&M is literal proof it will only elevate them in due time.

OU gets a ton of their recruits from Texas though. What is that going to do when you have not only 1 but 2 SEC schools in the state fighting for those top tier recruits wanting to play in the SEC.

Does that hurt or help OU? Time will tell I guess but you would think it would hurt them more than anything looking at it on paper.

BUT it could just as easily help them also. I see both sides to its all a time will tell scenario. I think everyone’s argument that is for Riley to LSU is that there is no question that LSU will get top recruits regardless is Riley is here or not. We are ready to compete NOW with minor adjustments to the team

I'd be just as believable saying Will Muschsmp is the new coach. Complete BS either way

Bad example. Texas A&M doesn't have to go out of state to nab elite recruits. They can sell, "stay home in Texas AND play in the SEC." The move will elevate Texas, but I don't see it working out as well for Oklahoma.

Did moving to the SEC elevate Missouri? They won the East a couple of times right after joining, showing that they were a decent program at the time, and have been basically irrelevant ever since.

Obviously Oklahoma is a much better program than Missouri, but I think it's a better comp based on the natural recruiting base.

Even if Oklahoma does get some boost in recruiting from the move, the step up in level of competition will be significantly higher.

There is attention on everyone. Riley, Franklin, Fickell, Napier, Kiffin, Aranda, etc.

Look up any of the LSU coaching candidates from mainstream sites like CBS or ESPN and Riley is not on those lists.

Not disagreeing that they've elevated their program but they've only finished top 10 twice in 8 complete seasons since joining - and once was last year. 2012 and 2020. The other 6 seasons, they average a final ranking of 21st. Not horrible but definitely middle of the road.

ETA: That's actually not true. It looks like they weren't even in the final Top 25 for 4 of those 6 years (2019, 2017, 2015, 2014). I was just looking at their last poll number and didn't notice it wasn't the final poll. So nearly 50% of their existence in the SEC has ended with them unranked. The other 2 non-top 10 seasons, they finished around 20th.

Napier May be our next best bet. I had him way down my list at first, but if you look at what he has accomplished at ULL (currently 26 in Coaches poll, 27 in AP), it is remarkable.

Most of speculations, reports, sources, etc say Riley is the number 1 target. I am here to say that is true. But you already kind of knew that.

Here is an interesting thing. According to my source Woodward has given Riley an offer. And has a certain amount of time to accept. Source told me this in his own words through text this afternoon. “Scott offered him and is not waiting around. You either want to be at LSU or you don’t. Scott is willing to wait but not too long. He has his second option that’s big dog as well.”
Source also mentioned other reasons as to why Woodward wants this hire done.

I believe Woodward has 2 “big dogs” or 2 “white whales” you could say.

Last thread I posted was about the 4 candidates and 3 and 4 being Napier and Franklin. That remains the case but I don’t think Woodward goes that far down. It’s almost looking like it’s down to 2. But I won’t say that officially.

That’s all I got.
