Coaches know who the best recruiters are. I'm sure he knew about Frank Wilson because he lost quite a few battles to him.

Maybe, maybe not. It wouldn’t shock me if Kelly is at least consulting with Woody to identify some home run LA recruiters for his staff. Frank is common knowledge to us, but he’s not a young rock star coach with a lot of buzz.
Here’s the thing about an intelligent leader. They will ask advice from people they trust and weigh that against what they already know before making a decision. However, a guy like Kelly doesn’t have to depend on that because he knows what he’s doing.
The problem with O was that he HAD to depend on the advice of others because he had no clue how to make hires on his own.

Coaching community isn't that large. I'm sure even if he didn't know Frank Wilson by name, he was thinking to himself "who was that guy that was on almost every kid I was looking at in Louisiana years back?"

The answer to this question has got to be Austin Thomas. Only other hires have been from his staff at ND
