This. They can’t afford it. However, ole Miss fans do live beyond their means and are all up to their eyeballs in credit card debt.
In the meanwhile, LSU is looking for a way out of paying Brian Kelly his entire buyout.

that have people believing he's staying at Ole Miss? Just the meeting tomorrow or is it something else?

The meeting tomorrow. Ole Miss thinks that their AD is going to go into the meeting and close Kiffin with how they plan to run their NIL/Rev Share moving forward.

There are a couple problems though. The NIL of the past 2-3 years is gone. Now it all goes through the clearing house, so you can't cut a blank check to a player in the portal. The other aspect that LSU has an advantage is high school NIL. LSU's collective gives NIL deals to instate talent, so the old NIL rules still work in that space. Mississippi doesn't allow high school NIL, so Lane will always be at a disadvantage at the high school recruiting level. This means that Ole Miss moving forward is more reliant on Rev Share/NIL at the portal level and they need to beat what LSU has presented since LSU has the inherent advantage of the high school talent and NIL potential to keep the talent at home.

There’s a difference between can’t and don’t want to.

It's not because we can't afford it. It's because we would prefer to pay less, so if we can settle and put that whole era behind us at an advantageous price, we will try. If not, we'll pay out until he finds a job that will mitigate and then we'll settle at that time similar to Miles.

I've seen this said, but it's been denied by their 247 and on3 guys. The rumor was started by Chris Phillips...

Because it’s ridiculous. No one is committing 40 million/year to NIL. Certainly not a program like Ole Miss. not on top of paying Kiffin 14-15 million a year plus a 5-7 million dollar staff and revenue sharing. That’s like 70+ million. Those are just impossible assurances to make for anyone. The money just doesn’t exist for that type of commitment, not right now at least

It’s been amusing watching Ole Miss fans strut around with their chests puffed up about NIL/roster spending.

They legit believe because they were ahead of the game that they’re out there spending “frick you” money like the Texas schools.

Texas is rumored to have the largest NIL payroll thus year. That number is estimated at 22 million. (LSU around 20 million). No one is fricking doubling that number to hire Lane Kiffin. It’s just a made up number no one can actually deliver year after year

Nu uh

Ole Miss fan earlier told me they’ve spent $20 mil, at least, each of the last 4 years.

So you are saying it’s now impossible for Michigan to pay a QB a million or more bucks and steal a commit?

Jimmy does this every single time. I will say this, I think this one went farther than any one I have seen. And I think that’s because Lane is ready to leave if ole miss doesn’t match. And I think Ole Miss was being a little stupid with the way they were handling it. I think those two things caused it get to this point.

This to me feels like the most likely scenario of what is happening

Great breakdown. For more simple terms. The same people saying Ole Miss has all this money are the same people saying LSU didn’t have money……..common sense is look at the two programs from Stadium to facilities to coaching salaries to skins on the wall. Ole Miss was ALWAYS a stepping stone for Kiffin rather he ends up at LSU or not. He not no other successful coach will EVER stay at Ole Miss.

They still could. They just can't write a huge check without it being approved by the GO NIL Clearinghouse that Deloitte is overseeing. This is only for students in college. Each state has their own rules for high school NIL.
