That’s you, but I can see how the are desperate and thinking they need him this week to try and make the playoffs.
So does that mean they'll let him coach the playoffs even if he announces he's leaving? If you think you need Lane to beat MSU how do you plan on beating playoff teams without him?

Is it not plausible that he said “This is what LSU is offering, match it”
And the response was give us a week to raise funds, etc.

Then why does point to after the Egg Bowl?

Yes. You don’t “an announcement in a week” anything about a coach that’s staying. There’s zero advantage to doing that.

It's probably a matter of coaching the CFP game or not.
Basically the AD probably believes he is leaving but wants him to stay until after the egg bowl to get a win and assure a playoff berth.

Lane probably gave them the time table. You get the money by this date or I’m out of here.

Don't they have weird rules where contracts have to be approved by the state?

If CLK had any interest in staying, he would not be doing this to his players. Leaving this up in the air for another week can only mean one thing…he gone.
To where…who knows? But he gone.

Then why even make this statement now ?

Not to mention it was a Friday news dump. In the PR world that’s what you do to ease the backlash and get out in front of something negative.
Generally that works with traditional news, but in CFB they have wall to wall coverage of the sport for the entire day Saturday. You want to get this kind of news out on Sunday, not a Friday. On Friday you're just opening yourself up to having every pundit and commentator talk about it while millions of people watch for 16 hours on a Saturday.

Because the media, boosters, fans are demanding answers?
