Wow Mike...adding Malzahn to that Conf with Boise St and Fresno would be pretty compelling!

Yep. I'd say they go after an AD first and then the HC, although they really need an HC now. thoughts?

AD and HC were the same guy, they might try that route again for this hire.

I was very critical of making him AD at the time. I even called it a bush league high school move myself. But he's turned out to be a pretty damn good AD. He knows how to get shite done. Will be a very good CEO-type coach. I think he'll do well at UT.

Just to add to this though, I think like most CEO-type coaches--and especially in the SEC--he's going to have to have good coordinators to be successful. We'll see if he can hire any this late in the game.

basically what I said earlier.

and yes he may turn out well, but I think Tennessee's AD handled this horribly.

On January 15th, you have to take gambles. But honestly, seeing what he did at Tech(and it's MORE than just about wins and losses as you Miles haters remind me every fricking hour of every fricking day), I'd be surprised if he's not pretty successful. He's going to get lots of people--fans, players, admin, future recruits, etc...to buy into his program.

He's shown he can talk a lot of shite, but I haven't seen him back much of it up.

He has saban's mouth without much of his knowledge.

Tech had a great year in '08, probably ahead of schedule. So expectations were a little too high for '09. They had almost zero depth going in, and then had a bunch of injuries. With the redshirts and transfers being ready next year, as long as Tech hires a guy who can tie his shoe-laces, they are gonna be pretty good next year.

And I'm not saying Dooley is already great or some kind of homerun, but they could have done much worse. Dude is very smart, is a great communicator, and has a great pedigree. He was eventually going to be a BCS head coach, this is probably just a year or 2 ahead of time.
