South Florida: Chris Low of ESPN is now reporting that Charlie Strong has agreed to a deal to become USF’s new head coach. Low adds that Strong would like to take most of his staff from Texas with him, including offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert. UPDATE>> South Florida has now formally announced the hire.

If we wanted Gilbert, I'm sure he wouldn't turn down twice the money to call plays at an SEC school.

I figured this would happen. Good for all those coaches who thought they might be unemployed.

Doubt Gilbert would turn down LSU for USF.

Lol at any college coach worrying about being unemployed. Coaching is the worlds most efficient good ole boy system in the country. You can be the worlds worst football coach and someone will find a football job for you to do and pay you for it

Wasn't Dabo bagging groceries before Clemson hired him?

According some of the jackasses on here , nobody wants to coach here.

Reality is if we pay competitively and go after the best, we can get the best.

In my opinion, Gilbert is far from the best. Bring in Kiffin or Art Briles

This will work out for him.

Charlie is a fine coach but right now nobody is going to do well in Austin.

he will have support at USF, knows the lay of the land and doesn't have to deal with extreme expectations.

this may be the best coaching move of anybody in America.

He worked for AIG-Baker Real Estate development in Birmingham from 2001 to 2003. Said he made more money there than his time as an assistant at Clemson.

Actually, what's good is for USF to get many of the UT coaching staff. Talk about all those guys loosening up and just doing what they like best, coaching football without the pressure of being at steam scalded at UT.

Right in IMG's backyard though I doubt he get's enough there if any to make a dent. Just can't imagine most IMG players who are mostly transplants themselves wanting to go there.

He will clean up shop on the rest of Florida though.

You mean that's why BDP is still getting interviews?

I agree. Complete home run hire with Strong, and added bonus that he brings Gilbert with him. Taggart left some good talent there and I expect Charlie to tear it up in Tampa.
