So did O get EXACTLY what he wanted?

You can fill in the blanks regarding Freeman, but did O get the guy he REALLY wanted the entire time? Something tells me he did. Good for him if true. These two coordinator's will have a direct impact on O's short-term future at LSU. I like both the hires and think it's betting on the upside that got us Brady!

I don't think O had complete autonomy in his selections this time. And I do think there was a push to hire a black coordinator. Fortunately, Freeman had excellent credentials and he just also happened to be black. He would have been the hire to placate all opinions. Unfortunately, he chose to go to ND.
At that point O probably got a little more leverage in the selection process as the top candidate said no. I don't think Neilsen was O's top candidate. However, he was certainly a guy on O's short list from the beginning.

Of course not. If Freeman said yes he'd be the guy

Question is, without going into the "minority hire" part of this...do you think O wanted Freeman more than Nielsen?

Moscona hinted that nielsen was O’s guy all along, but was told to shop around the hire a bit.

Right. Honestly once the Freeman decision-making process was laid out, our guys(SW and O) both knew that N.D. was a more logical choice for him. Now I believe they would've been glad to get him, but they checked all the boxes and got O's guy anyway...

Presuming Nielsen has signed a contract, I think he is going to make the best DC hire we could have made, and that includes Freeman.

I’ll be the first to admit I wanted freeman but Nielsen was the guy I wanted if not freeman. That Dline for the Saints was nasty and he’s seemed to have guys really excel under his tutelage

Another positive...We don't know for sure he will leave in a year or two. That was almost a given with Freeman.

It's a great hire IMO and it happens to also be his personal first choice.
Freeman was worth taking a look at but this is a good plan B.

It seems like a solid hire. Let's leave it at that. Don't think we need to push the idea that O had a Mad Plan All Along.

I think both would be great hires. If Nielsen is the guy then great. Get a solid LB coach and let's ride.
The more I researched Nielsen the more I liked the possibility of him as DC. Peetz and Nielsen are both unknowns as coordinators, but I like the idea of a young, hungry staff out to prove themselves.

I think O wanted Nielsen the entire time and then was very impressed with Freeman
