I think he is wishful thinking so he won't have to fill another coaching vacancy before he retires.

I don't think Skip will have much if any say in a new coach. Lombardi and O'Keefe will make that decision.

Les may be the choice, but Mich will have many coaches wagging their tails. Even though a coach had a great job, you never know what they are thinking.

I would want Urban Meyer here. Like Les he is from the area, coached in the area, even coached in the M-OSU game, for OSU. Now it is easy for fans to believe Meyer can't do any better than where he is today (heck, even I think that), but coaches don't think that way (Saban, Spurrier, Petrino....all great examples of wanting the next challenge). And the Midwest is home, and his wife would like to come back to the area.

Mich was one of two jobs Meyer had outs for when he was at Utah (I think ND is the other). He may still have an out in his Florida contract for Mich (don't really know though). But this is how he responds when asked about the Michigan job: "I just grew up in that area and I had always admired Michigan, and it was first class. I was a huge Bo Schembechler fan growing up and actually coached at OSU and in that rivalry, so I just admire that school." When asked if Michigan still has that prestige he responded, "Absolutely."

I can't explain it, a rational person would say he is in a great situation now, but the heart wants what the heart wants. As a kid and as a young coach he pictured himself in the Big House, surrounded by those distinctive helmets, listening to the "Victors," getting ready to do battle with the Scarlet and Grey legions from Columbus. To him, I guess, that is priceless. If Mich would offer, I think he would come. Go figure!

Your right except tht O'Keefe will also not have any say.

Lombardi and a few key BOS members will be making this call. BTW one of the top BOS members has been communicating w/ SOS since Summer '07. Communication was initiated by SOS people. This is virtually a done deal.

This is virtually a word-for-word quote I was told while I was in Orlando attending the CapOne Bowl, i.e., Saban's last game at LSU. The guy went so far as to say SOS was in the press box at the game and would be introduced as the new coach right after the game ended. True story!

I am getting a little tired of Michigan fans claiming to be modest and not trying to offend anyone, and then comparing their program to a professional program, implying that other teams are not on their level.

After you win your first you can start thinking about setting up a dynasty like the bear, or schlemberererer or hayse, but until you win that first, you take nothing for granted.
