Yesterday there was an article put out by The Advocate saying that he had made the decision to step down as the head coach and take on a new role in the school district. This is poor reporting by The Advocate. Coach Edwards was told that he would no longer be the head football coach. Plenty of jokes and threads have been made on this site about “Sid” in the past, but anyone who knows and can’t deny that he is a very good coach and a very good person. (I don’t have direct dealings with him, but I have several friends who have sons who have played football for him) According to the article, he’s been there for 17 years. I know from following local high schools in the greater Baton Rouge area that he’s done more in Central in 17 years than any other coach is done since the early 70s. I know he took the team to the semi finals one time the quarterfinals a few more and only missed the playoffs twice in his time there anyone who knows anything about football in our area understands also that the district Central got put into this year was a nightmare situation for them, I wonder if the people out there simply don’t understand the deficit that they’re at. Every school in their district (including Zachary) allows kids to come in from outside of their attendance zone. Some of them naturally, and some of them… Let’s just say unnaturally. The fact that Central has been competitive at all is amazing. It just goes to prove that the old adage about that place is true. The politics will always outweigh the common sense. Hopefully Coach Edwards will find another place to affect young men in a positive way. I hope for Central sake they start keeping up with the Joneses… Or in this case, the Catholics, Zachary’s, Scotlandvilles, Woodlawn’s, etc.

Central just needs to realize their pecking order regarding talent. They will have good years but not elite.

They will just never have the Jimmy's and Joe's to compete at the highest of high levels.

Central is too landlocked to really gain traction with "new" talent coming into town.

Ascension is the ones that had enough of Catholic and spearheaded the district changes
They will likely never play Catholic in football again, probably won't play them in any sports
Central was a better fit with the livingston schools

Edwards in the article stated he still wants to coach
He probably would have left Central earlier had he not had his kids in school in that district, but both have now finished

I've never met Sid, but friends in the coaching business hold him in high regard.

Well he kind of brought that on himself. He made was probably averaging a job change a year for stint.

Central is definitely at a geographic disadvantage compared to Zachary. Zachary can easily pull from Northeast, Baker and Scotlandville. Much more of an effort to get to Central. Central is kind of stuck with the kids that walk through the door.

Central has crazy ways with coaches. Wasn’t long ago I remember them firing thier baseball coach after back to back state championships cause he was too hard on thier players and didn’t play into the parents hands.

If I had to guess did was the same way and the high class people of central don’t like authority being hard and pushing thier children. Central will bring in a in the loop coach like they did in baseball and start the downward trend

The baseball coach went to Brusly and is having same issues over there.
But that's more on the parents these days

Central wants it that way. Whenever development occurs near Central (I'm talking areas that are near but not in Central but areas that go to Central schools) that will attract blacks and/or latinos Central wants to vote that area out of their district instead of taking advantage of those areas to bolster their athletic teams.

I was confused by your title. Wouldn't it be "Sid Edwards fired at Central...not voluntarily stepping down"?

Because "fired" and "let go" are about the same.

Central is too landlocked

Do they need access to a river in order to open things up?

This will absolutely never change in Central. You learn this about Central in Junior High.
