Should we be worried about John Chavis leaving?

He doesn't want to be a HC. Said many times before. LSU's staff has several guys who have tried elsewhere and failed.

Cooper wasn't a good HC, doubt anyone offers him something like that anytime soon

Haley demoted himself from the NFL

Kragthorpe is a failed HC

Wilson is fairly new to the college game but he'll probably be a big young candidate soon

Gonzo is...well Gonzo

Stud just got a extension and appears to really like it here

Ensminger is...well who cares

Mofitt doesn't want to be anywhere but LSU

Well that is problem. Chavis stayed at Tenn for over 15 years. He had opportunities, he doesn't want to be a HC. He is also loyal. Tenn ran him off because they fired fat Phil and he gave them 15 years loyal service. I'll bet they're regretting that now. Get somebody on staff that can recruit for him, he'll coach them up. Especially LBs.

The guy makes more than enough as our DC. He just seems like (and i believe has said as much) that just likes coaching and doesnt want the outside hassle of a HC. In that game of the century week interview with erin andrews you could kinda tell that he didnt like it. He just wanted to focus on gameplanning and coaching. Being a HC is much more than just that its shaking hands at booster functions its being the face of the program on espn and radio shows and Les is great at all that. Chavis doesnt seem to want that which is why hes perfect for our DC.

I very well understand all points you make but the difference between coordinating and coaching is in the millions. Don't act like that I can sweep that under the rug bc he already makes good money. More money you make, more money you want.

It would take a elite program like Florida to make him be a HC I'd imagine. He'd most likely have to start somewhere lower and probably get the same thing there as HC compared to LSU. And added stress plus 10x the workload. Also, it would take somewhere close to his family. He doesn't like being far from them and I think he gets homesick at LSU sometimes.

If the right job came along, who knows. If Tenn offered him, would be interesting to see what he'd say.

Chavis has found his happy spot at DC and makes great money doing it at one of the best football schools in the country. I feel lucky that we have such a great DC that seems comfortable with his position and not really a threat to go find a good HC job.
