I would guess that maybe 60% of saints fans are also LSU fans and of that 60% most of that group is more LSU than saints fans if push comes to shove.

1 NFL team in LA vs many colleges with alumni that don't like LSU.
You are gonna be surprised.

They Don't , that's a easy call... and they draft sooooo many Tigers ... and paid for it Sunday #45 ....
I love people who continue to act like the saints had any shot whatsoever at Devin white. I’m sure they would have taken him if given the chance. It’s such a ridiculous take.

True statement, but they have traded up to get other players .

Not into the top 5 of the draft.

You have to have a trade partner. You don’t just announce you’re trading up and take that spot.
You think Tampa is going to want to make a deal with a divisional rival to jump into a top 5 pick? Let’s get real.

That’s a pretty big “except.” The Saints are reliant on Louisiana taxpayers for many things, including tax benefits, season tickets, TV viewers and Superdome improvements.
Its not real smart to piss off a large portion of your fan and tax base.
Hopefully the Saints don't read this message board then.
I counted a half dozen threads from LSU fans jumping for joy when they were beaten two days ago because Devin White and Fournette played well.

you people can’t be like this IRL

The Saints are going to back off as soon as Nielsen agrees not to jump back in to the NFL in the near future like Brady did. It will be fine.

Just how good of a coach will he be for the Saints if he’s forced into indentured servitude?

There are plenty of people in LA that pull for other NFL teams or don't care for the NFL at all
There are also LSU fans/alums all over the country
wonder how many Saints fans there are in Houston or Dallas?
LSU has more power in LA than the Saints do

Serious question: Is this even legal?
I understand why the Saints would want such. About as far as I can see it going is an agreement that if Nielsen were to come back into the NFL, within a specific and limited time frame, he would agree to allow the Saints to offer first.
I can see a future legal trap for the Saints, if indeed it is real they are holding it up for something other than buyout (big IF). And that trap is what happens if he stays at saints and is denied a raise? Or an opportunity to become DC? That's a box, as a regular guy, I would not want to explain to a judge. Not to mention the compounded PR disaster.

I’ve been a Saints fan for as long as I can remember, but this situation seriously pisses me off.
And it has resulted in me losing a good deal of respect for Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis.

We may find out different later. Actually quite soon. But until then this is still a negotiation, not a vendetta/tantrum. At least that's how I read the situation.
Now, it definitely appears the Saints let the story get away from them and has created a PR problem when they were just "negotiating". Which also reeks of lawyers/agents (on LSU's side). But hey, if that's their mistake so be it. Saints do what they do, and LSU just might be controlling the narrative (for once!) as part of that negotiation.
ETA: In the grand scheme of things the Saints are on shaky ground and LSU has some advantages. I'm talking macro-picture here.
1. The NFL is a cutthroat business and coaches are often very mercenary, owners and GMs even more so. Owners bail from towns with publicly funded venues. GMs openly criticize players as part of contract renegotiations. Coaches bail for other franchises, laterally, all the time. Players with a contract hold out and/or demand trades. Medical teams skirt the line based on contract negotiations with clearance/non-clearance. Agents patrol the universities and talk to parents of CFB players more than the HC during recruitment.
2. LSU has been a good stepping stone for many coaches. LSU pays assistants better than the NFL. And the idea of "professional" vs. "amateur" about this being a promotion or not for Nielsen won't hold water. That applies to players only. A team doctor for LSU is not an amateur. Neither is a coach. Coaching at this level is professional; the pay, responsibilities, and revenue brought in all support that.

There are alums of the other LA schools all over the country as well.
LSU may have more alums in powerful political positions.
I hope this works out in favor of LSU.

I was turned off as soon as they forced Drew to take a knee and kiss the BLM ring. I’m buying nothing Saints or NFLNBA related. Hell, I’m boycotting NOLA entirely as long as that thug whore us running the city. Thanks guys, remember to brush up on your Chinese. Peace

LSU easily has way more fans in and out of LA than the saints do. Hell a good portion of north LA and west LA likes the cowboys.
