What does that matter? People are going to quit watching LSU football because he entertained an offer from his alma mater?
Were you around for the Dinardo era? The Hallman era? Yes, fans, die hard bleed purple and gold types will quit watching LSU football if we start losing. I sat in tiger stadium with about sixty thousand people before. Have you?
You forget what LSU fans love more than anything - the LSU Football team. The coach is merely tolerated and he is food for the fishes once he starts to slip. LSU fans will not hesitate to stop going to or watching games to express their disgust with a losing coach.
You've already seen thousands of posts mentioning the UM/Nebraska coaching intrigue and the effect on the Arkansas game. If he stays on and loses a few games it will get ugly.

Yeah, but what if we keep winning? What are those fans gonna matter?

Of course it will. It'll get ugly anyway if he starts to lose.
There are people who don't like Les personally regardless of the success he has. THey haven't liked him since he got here because he's not the rockstar Saban was and if he stays, there will be people who will continue to dislike him even if the UM situation never came up.

Yes, and when people make posts like you just did, it's no problem for me to do so. I'd rather use bad language than not use my brain and not think, which is something you like to not do.

I would not want to believe he has hung around to see if he could win a NC, amidst the distractions, and still go to UM.

The part I quoted indicated, at least to me, that you were saying he should have stepped down and given the reigns to Crowton.
And why wouldn't you want to believe he could hang around and win an NC and still go to UM? Maybe Les hasn't made up his mind, maybe it hasn't been a done deal this whole time.

People who don't like Miles because he's not "rockstar" quality are a bit shortsighted. He's not the perfect coach but he is winning. Now. I think people are uneasy with him because the difference between winning and losing is getting closer and closer. We are only a handfull of plays away from being 7-5 this year. We have shown zero improvement from Sept to Nov. The ark game was simply inexcusable. Hey, the natives are getting restless.
Spurrier, Saban, and Del Rio are sniffing around. Its got to do with perception. The more people talk about the above 3 every Miles weakness is magnified.

Everyone is already talking like Miles is gone (which he probably is), but what a wrinkle it would be if he actually stayed.

This thread has gone in several different directions. But just to add... I think Les has handled this situation about as well as he possibly can. He has shown one thing in this situation... consistency and honesty.
As far as our performance this season... yes, we seem to have regressed in recent weeks. That does bother me. The penalties bother me. But the W/L record is pretty damn good. Let's see how we perform tomorrow.

I agree. But, that matters to a lot of people. Whoever the LSU coach is, has to be someone they can look up to.

I agree on most counts. We haven't really been improving, injuries have taken a toll. Personnel decisions have been mind boggling.
And right or wrong, because of the bad play, because of penalties, etc. and with the image that people have of Les being an easy going, carefree guy.........people get the perception that Les doesn't know about our bad play or care for that matter and is not doing anything to fix it. I understand.

Only time will tell if those people are right. As a loyal Miles fan, it sucks to admit this, but I kind of wish he'd take the Michigan job so we'll never find out.

Rocket,
I have been reading yours and pjtiger's post on here all night long,it is 4:46 am here in DFW, and I must say that people should give you both more credit than what they are giving you both in your posts. I imho think that Coach Miles is going about this in the proper way due to the fact that he saw how Coach Saban handled things when he left for the NFL and realizes that the players deserve better than what they got 3 years ago on Christmas Day. I also think that Coach Miles would absolutely be stupid to not to at least hear what UM have in the way of an offer and LSU likewise, but he is not a money man and I feel he will make a decision that both he and his family would feel that is the best place for them to be!! As far as Coach Saban possibly returning, I would think that it would be great for the program, especially from a recruiting aspect, but I am really not sure that some members of the BOS or other "boosters/alumni" would be able to let bygones be bygones. I know that the media would try to make us look like the village idiot, but I feel that we would still come out on top, but if Coach Saban comes back or if Coach Miles stays, I honestly feel that we would be able to finally be able to do what all of us LSU fans have dreamed about and that is to finally build a DYNASTY!!! Now, don't get me wrong, I know we probably won't achieve the lofty heights like ND has had before this season, but I sure that all of us would love to be a prennial component of the BCS picture for years to come. I look forward to your response and I hope you realize that this is not for someone that acts like he thinks he knows something or somebody, but that this is from someone who is very passionate about this program! Good Night/Morning and God Bless
P.S. Do you think that if Coach Miles would have stayed at OSU, would have UM come calling with what he was able to do while at said school??

BINGO!!
considering the circumstances... Michigan losing to App State; Carr retires the week before thanksgiving; Nebraska courting Pelini; all of this was out of Miles' control and I take him at his word that he is focused on a BCS run.
Is it not understandable for Les to feel obligated to listen to Michigan considering the opportunities that was given to him on and off the field from that institution?
The Les "haters" really should prepare themselves if he decides to stay at LSU...

The Detroit Free Press Article answers a lot of these questions. According to that
According to "friends", Miles has made it clear that he wasnts the job.
The talks between intermediaries has progressed pretty far - money and years.
Money is not expected to be a problem - talking more than Miles made at LSU and Carr made at Michigan.
There is still some slight hesitation from some Michigan factions (does't say it but probably the Carr faction). Probably not enough to scuttle the deal though.
