The SEC is about to have an influx of more than $250M annually to disperse to its school members

The $12M doesn’t mean anything
$250 million divided amongst 18 teams is $13.8 million. All of the other SEC teams are going to be getting this money to spend as well, which means competition and the price of everything is going up. Teams are going to be upgrading facilities and spending lots more for assistant coaches.

Sure, we can spend all of that new revenue on a new HC, but I wouldn't say $12 million doesn't mean anything.

I don’t care. But why pay more than you have to?

OU was only paying him 7 for a reason.

Scared money don’t make no money. I want Riley, regardless of buyout.

Aranda is in a different class from Riley and Kiffin - we need an intellectual this time around

Well, I think there's a good chance we'll get him now. OU isn't going to trip over themselves to make him the highest-paid coach in CFB. And their fans seem done with him.

Bruh. They pay the current coach $8.5M. Another $4M ain’t going to turn LSU into Grambling with another ~$15M coming in annually in two years

I'm not worried about $12 mil a year. I'm more concerned that the contract will have to be 8 to 10 years in length at that price. If Riley was a sure thing, I can see it. Be he's not. He hasn't shown he's close to making an SEC caliber defense.

I don't think it's fair to hold Aranda's first year against him. Normally I would, but to start your first year as HC with a bunch of covid restrictions seems damn near impossible. How do you implement a new offense and defense without spring practice? How do you develop recruiting relationships when you can't go out and recruit. Yes, it was a rough start at 2-7, but I don't think that's indicative of what we should expect from him. Furthermore, as bad as that was, a year later he's 8-2 and in the hunt for a Big-12 title.

All of this plus Riley took over one of the most consistent programs of the last twenty years and had already been the OC there.

If you want a guy, you pay what he costs. We're not exactly on a budget here.

I know you’re not going to believe me but this morning I was thinking the exact same thing. I was thinking 15 but nevertheless it makes Woodward and LSU look desperate.

Not only that if we pay someone that much money they are going to be expected to win a natty their first year and then every other year from then on. No one is worth that kind of money not named Saban.
