So strike Lane off the list.

Not really. He's a guy who you might regret not hiring 10 years down the line, but he has not proven to be capable of hiring an even decent defensive staff. LSU is too good of a job to roll the dice on him being able to figure out such a critical duty.

God I hope not. That dude’s had too many chances to win at big programs. His career’s only surviving on the reputation his daddy had.

He's only been at one big program and that's USC and he only had 3 years with 1 good season.

Lane is Orgeron 2.0.

No one wants to risk their career with him.

Name one thing that's similar between them besides both being coaches at Ole Miss.

Raiders- youngest HC in NFL history
Fired

Tennessee- historic SEC program
Quit

USC- Historic program on so many levels

Fired

Ole Miss- seems just about the size of a program he needs to be at. Low expectations- just relevancy. No championship aspirations

Tennessee is not a historic program by any stretch. They haven't been relevant outside of the late 90s.

They won the SEC east 4 times since then.
