From Ben Allbright
quote:
Two very hard "not happening" tonight on Jon Gruden to Vols, from as rock solid sources as you can get.

He's probably right. But for what it's worth, this is the same moron who said Charlie Strong to LSU last year.

Time for Dan Mullen... The guy they should've been after form day 1.

It felt like the Jimbo to LSU storyline.

So you have represented Ben Allbright's tweet as fact, not once, but TWICE.
Let me tell you who at least 1 of his "rock solid" sources are.
1. Jimmy Hyams is 100 % his first source. Jimmy is notorious for getting a scoop, 3 hours late.
In 2009 Hyams said, "According to my sources in the Athletic department, Lane Kiffin is not a candidate and has not been interviewed". This is after multiple media reports came out that Kiffin had been offered the job. My belief is that Jimmy's source deliberately fed him misinformation in order to keep Patterson on the line in case Lane Kiffin said no.
2 days later, Lane Kiffin was announced as the next head coach, officially. Jimmy Hyams made the official announcement, 8 hours after everyone else had broken the story.
In 2012, he was all in on Charlie Strong. He was very close to being right, but Hart tried to get Charlie Strong to fly to Knoxville for a second interview, AFTER Charlie had already signed a non-binding MOU.
Nobody predicted Butch Jones, in fact, we all had to Google him.
What I'm saying here is, in a coaching search, all bets are off. Hyams is reporting what he is told to report.
As far as Allbright's 2nd source is concerned, it would not surprise me if it's Mike Griffith, John Adams, or Chris Low.
Griffith is Lyle's personal ball washer, and has been wrong about literally EVERY THING this year.
Adams is Jimmy's broadcast partner.
And everyone knows Low. Chris is usually pretty reliable, but Chris isn't as plugged into the UT AD as he used to be and he'd be the first to admit it. He's a Tennessee guy, but he's a national opinion writer now. And I seriously doubt Chris would say "Gruden said no", but he has said that he is almost positive that Gruden would not ever coach at Tennessee or in CFB, and I agree with him.
Allbright may be 100% right about Gruden being a no go, in fact I think he is, but to take his word as gospel truth is asinine.

Ben Allbright also said Charlie Strong to LSU, Tyler Wilson was the next Favre and Trent Richardson was he next Adrian Peterson.
Not saying Tennessee gets Gruden but that is one of the worst sports reporters in the entire country. He’s a fuching clown.

Same guy that said there's been absolutely no contact between us and Gruden and that there wouldn't be any. He's not exactly clued in on this

I don't see the logic either. Unless he just loves coaching that damn much, but he makes as much there as he would coaching with much less stress and alot more free time.

I get the no stress thing, but sometimes you need a new challenge and some amount of stress is good for you.
