I see a lot of angst on this board about rushing into hiring an OC. Apparently O said he would take his time and Ross Dellenger with the Advocate reported a week ago that the OC hire would likely come after the bowl games.

LSU's new staff hires likely coming after bowl game, Ed Orgeron says

quote:

"I think we’re going to take our time," Orgeron said. "We’re going to see how everything pans out. There’s some things that we want to get done, people that we’re recruiting. Things are going to fall into place, but as we say, we’re going to take our time, take it one day at a time, see how it goes."

Time for some of us to re-adjust our expectations in terms of the timing of hiring the next OC.

I think with the damage the uncertainty is doing to recruiting, they'll move that time line up a bit.

Yep...no need for urgency. Continue to lose recruits, let the uncertainty be ammunition for opponents recruiting efforts, and just take our time. See how things pan out. Solid plan

We had two QB commits when he said this.

One of those, the early enrollee, just decommited and the other opened up his recruitment last week.

Its time for O to make a decision. The uncertainty is already doing damage at the most important position.

That was when he still thought he was getting Kiffin, and was waiting/deflecting.

If that's the case, then maybe Kiffin is the one that was waiting on O and not the other way around. If so, I think we will be better off.

A new OC now would likely not impact recruiting. We are now in a dead period that last until January 11, 2016.

There is time to do this right. Interview a half a dozen potential OCs and pick the best fit.

I think with us not landing Kiffen and Bama now looking for an OC, it would be best to lock up our guy ASAP.

Technically they shouldn't be recruiting.

Context

That was the language used to hold out hope for Kiffin.

Now that he's a non factor, there is no reason for further delay. Procrastinating is not likely to produce desirable results.

Don't disagree.

However procrastinating can be just as bad as panicking.

I know about the dead period. One of our QB recruits decommitted today because of uncertainty around our offense and he's planning on enrolling early. We need an OC in place to quell those concerns.

This really should have been done by now. Our season ended 2 weeks ago.

So what your are really saying is you disagree with O's timeline?

Based on Brennan and Narcisse situations I would have to agree with you.

I really hope so or the bottom is going to fall out on some really important pieces of this recruiting class.

I believe the quoted comments in OP were from a time when the staff firmly believed that Kiffin would land at LSU. That was also a time when LSU had two very solid QB commitments. Things change.
