The reason for the delay is Kiffin is waiting for the stalker Marty Smith to leave the athletic department.

This guy has been around a bit. My question is whether LSU is operating on a hand shake deal or verbal agreement. Or is there a binding agreement or contract in place?

Seems like an easy choice for OM. Their shot at keeping him as letting him coach to test if we will wait

I think if he is staying at ole Miss then they would have said it by now. Working on the transition deal makes sense or they are buttering him up is another.

“I was just told”. You missed adding who told you this. It makes it so much more interesting and credible.

I was just told the reason Lane hasn’t been announced yet is because the Ole Miss decision makers are split on if Lane should be allowed to continue coaching through the playoffs or not.

I expected Lane's answer to be "I have a contract, I am not signing the extension, I have not signed another contract, I am coaching until you say no

Yes — his contract is structured to give him bonuses for going to and winning a conference title and for going to / winning the national championship under the Lane Kiffin contract at Ole Miss Rebels.

Here is how the bonuses are structured (per the publicly released contract terms):

SEC championship: $150,000 if the team simply participates in the SEC title game; $400,000 if the team wins it.

College Football Playoff / National Championship:

$500,000 for reaching a CFP semifinal game.

$750,000 for reaching the National Championship game (i.e. the CFP final).

$1,000,000 for winning the national championship.

If you like — I can pull up the full incentive-bonus table from his latest signed contract so you can see every bonus clause.

If Ole Miss lets him coach through the playoffs they are dumber than even I thought they were. End of playoffs the will have no coach and it will be to late to get a good coach. LSU will have LK.

Ole Miss and LSU both see what’s available on the coaching market and whoever doesn’t get Lane will likely end up with a bad hire. It’s going to be rough for the loser of this Kiffin sweepstakes.

Ole Miss is so dumb. If he wins in the playoffs they have a real shot to possibly retain him. That's your leverage right there. If he magically walks into NC maybe he realizes #year7 is worth it because he obviously knows he can win with what Ole Miss gives him.

Lanes holding all the cards. All Carter can do is fire him.

Absolutely, he is forcing Ole Miss into a decision. This is good for LSU.

Right but LSU can pull the plug any minute and hire another coach.
Ole Miss is stuck until LK figures out what he wants to do.
By that time all the good coaches will probably be with their new teams.

Ole Miss fans keep telling me they will suspend Lane with pay, lol. Let’s hope they do that and we end up with Lane sooner

There are none for this job. None of these coaches are any good for what they want in a contract. The drop off from Lane is too big. These coaches are wanting to be paid $10 plus million and one of the candidates(Sumrall) has never coached in a Power 5 game. You do everything you can to get Lane. You could in theory get a coordinator and pay him a lot less, but that would require a lot of vetting. Honestly we know LSU isn’t doing that.
