Got it...Were they hoping the Memorandum of Understanding got signed today?

I am the wrong person to ask, as I have no inside information. However, I am very well acquainted with Employment Contracts (both drafting of same and working under same) and have some insight and practical experience in the coaching hire Employment Agreement arena.

On a different subject, in addition to the insight brought by bountyhunter (which is good information for the denizens of the Coaching Changes Board), there is one important thing I gleaned from Keith Carter's press release, to wit:

The press release was written with some very precise wording. Especially the passage concerning the conversations that had just taken place......next steps. If Kiffen was staying there are essentially no next steps in the process for the parties to undertake. This wording foreshadows that Ole Miss is aware that Kiffin will be leaving and has an agreement in place (albeit a verbal agreement at this point in time) that will be documented shortly with the Memorandum of Understanding.

Don’t be dumb, SMU has stupid money, who cares what their stadium looks like.

Rhett is not leaving SMU with the amount of money they are pumping into that program. Lol

why would ole miss work on a deal to kill the money he owes in the buyout... pay the 4 million and move on. LSU gets out of paying the 4 million buyout and lane gets to finish the egg bowl.. nah they would have just had Joe judge do it...

the selection committee doesn't pick untll the next Sunday.. if he signs Saturday it would still affect voters . nothing in that would benefit ole miss into conceding the buyout to a rival

Stupid money should build a nice, new 60k seat stadium with all the amenities. There are high schools in Texas with better facilities than SMU.

How embarrassing. A reason I don't take that program seriously.

I’m not an attorney or an expert

But I agree with you

And this seems like common sense to me

LSU is not going to wait till after the playoffs

They negotiated for one more week

They negotiated for 2 more days.

From bountyhunter who was pretty spot on with his previous info…

quote:

He'll be able to sign the LSU contract shortly. They're working on a deal to kill some of the money he owes for leaving early in exchange for finishing the regular season. Once that's done he'll be free to sign the contract with LSU. Effective hire date will be Saturday 29th, contract signed by Sunday (23rd). LSU has given him until the end of the weekend to sign the contract before they move on. Edit: I also know that the SEC office has been involved. I have contacts there. I know this process has been confusing from the outside looking in. If anything I've been approved to use back channels to calm people down a bit. This whole situation is going to be talked about for years in college sports; going to be used as a hallmark example of why we need more rules around college contracts. Look at my history, I said on Monday that Kiffin wanted to coach OM through the playoffs, even. Legally it just isn’t possible and there is too much risk to all parties involved

Man I really hope something more concrete comes out today. I’m so tired of arguing with ole miss and Florida fans on social media.

I’m assuming the SEC office was involved to protect Ole Miss and their playoff chances?

Will be interesting to hear if he signed or not. I really hope it hasn’t come down to a bidding war like others are stating. Maybe after last night’s game they realized it will be a bigger rebuild than originally thought.
