Re: Mel Tucker vs Aranda

This may be really dumb, and I can see Aranda seems to be arguably the most popular choice/prediction right off the bat....but could one say Mel Tucker is a more experienced version of Aranda?
Both defensive guys while Tucker has been around a lot longer with stints in the NFL, but longevity doesn't necessarily mean much or make Aranda any worse
I admittedly don't know a ton about Tucker yet, but if you were to pair a flashy OC with him would it be a huge difference compared to Aranda/flashy OC?
Seems like reading the board this afternoon that if a good OC was included, people would be optimistic with an Aranda hire and melt if it was Tucker
Just to be clear, I'm not advocating for a Mel Tucker hire, just genuinely curious about the comparison to Aranda

Well, it seems like Mel has already scratched his NFL itch.... So there is that.
Also, most posters on this board know only what they read from this board. Their opinions are basically useless.

Neither have a large enough sample size as successful college head coaches to warrant the LSU job, unless the search whiffs a good bit. That being the case, I’d prefer Aranda because he’s familiar with LSU and the pipelines and I know he’s sharp as a tac.

That's fair
I guess I should've predicated in OP that we strike out on our big name top choices. IMO you're right in that Aranda recently being here prob makes him more desirable

The difference is Aranda is a known quantity because he coached here and had his best years as a DC here.

Mel Tucker seems good.
Plus he’s from Ohio…

I like Aranda but why hire him when a couple of players transferred because we went to a 4-3 when he left. Now hire him back and we go back to a 3-4 with possibly more players transferring. Doesn’t make sense.

Good ole boy system

I think that's fair. Tucker has GA connections so it's not like that would be detrimental either. Tucker was a GA LSU under Saban too for a few years

Um, you hire the best coach regardless of current players.

Plus Aranda does coach multiple front schemes. He's a good enough coach to be able to adjust to the talent he has.

I don't like how Mel left Colorado. Simple as that.
