You know some coaches aren't scared of playing the best right? They're competitive people it's what they do.

Also if you want to win a NC you're going to have to play the best in the SEC eventually anyway. Why not be apart of what's turned into one of the greatest yearly games in college football.

I believe LSU had the highest paid assistant coaches in college under Les Miles.
Then LSU is not getting its money's worth then with 3 of them.

Grimes, Craig and BDP are not getting it done as far as player development and effective technical coaching goes.........

Maybe he just wants to come back here, because he wants to. Maybe it's a change. Maybe a new challenge.

Sometimes y'all look so damn far into the roots that the blades cut your damn eyes. Not everything has to be some deep rooted reason.

Little competition for in state recruits
Per capita, Louisiana is loaded with talent
More $
More $ for assistant coaches
Being in the SEC isn't easier, but it is where true competitors want to be
He is already familiar with the program, state, and local community

-LSU is his dream job, has been since 2003
-Divorce has him needing a change of scenery
-A few more resources at LSU (better pay for assistants, recruiting, etc)

But it's really not. I'm too lazy to go link Forbes list, but LSU is above FSU by a notable margin. See, LSU isn't aTm or UT but they do benefit from being somewhat of an oil school among other things.

Then, you get into the logistics of LSU operating alone inside a talent-rich state versus being 1 of 3.

Is it a quantum leap above? Not at all. But, with a salary bump approaching $2mill, administrative increases in authority and working back in the SEC, it makes more sense.

For all the reasons already mentioned, and this icing on the cake: Dave Aranda and a great defensive staff already in place.

Plus, with better play-calling, QB recruiting, QB development and execution in the last 10 years LSU would have several victories over Saban, several SEC titles and a probably at least 2-3 national titles. Jimbo believes he could have given LSU the the QB play and play-calling it needed. As for Saban, Jimbo knows Saban, Saban's defensive schemes and tendencies, and he isn't worried about competing with Saban. The very fact that he has the confidence to come over here makes me feel better about him. However, although his record in QB recruiting/development has been amply substantiated on this board, I am not sold on him as a great play-caller. Very good at times, but not great, in my memory of him at LSU. I admit, though, that I have not studied him at FSU, and in his time as OC at LSU there was always the question of "is he able to run the offense exactly as he would like" (probably not under Miles, and probably with some limits under Saban). For example, as I recall, Jimbo was pushing Saban to play Rohan Davey over Josh Booty long before Saban would allow it.

Florida State is a prominent program that can financially match anything LSU offers.

LSU is willing to pay more for Jimbo and his assistants.

as much as no one here wants to admit it... The top level of the ACC has closed the gap on the top of the SEC. A decent coach at LSU this year could/would have lost only to Bama and be gearing up for a playoff berth.

Good question OP. Some say that FSU is not willing to match money with LSU. They still trail LSU in assistant pay and facilities. Fishers "personal" life might make BR a better fit. I've said before, I don't think fisher is the right hire.

I think that is the dumbest thing people throw out is a coach is scared of this or wants the easy path. These are usually type A personalities they aren't scared of nick saban

Yes they can; the debate is will they. FSU has upgraded staff salaries recently but Jimbo seems to be tired of constantly fighting for staff money. I think that is one of the big points with LSU - he wants to see looser purse strings.

Why would Saban leave a great city like Miami for a city that appeals almost exclusively to dairy queens, dollar generals and kids who prefer good football to education? It's hard to guess peoples' motivations.

they upgraded but they aren't committed to doing what we do. we constantly pay out the arse for top assistants. Of course it wasn't money well spent considering cam and moffit. However, we can keep doing that and a smart coach will make better hires. FSU doesn't have the stomach to do it.

Jimbo knows first hand the perks of coaching at LSU. If he is even considering a move, it won't take any convincing from LSU.

Crazy. Those were groundbreaking game changers when they were hired.

Miles wasn't the only coach who meddled in the offense, and you basically said that yourself. There are two stretches at LSU where he looked closest to what he runs now at FSU (still not quite the same, though). They are the 2nd half of 2001 and the 2nd half of 2006. It took time both seasons for Saban and Miles respectively to loosen the reigns on him, but once they did, the man re-wrote our passing record books.

Jimbo has proven that he can win with just about anybody (see Randall, Marcus), but if he gets a star under center, he will wreck defenses. He always has. People here have short and slanted memories, but it's the objective truth if you look over time.
