Austin Thomas handles all NIL relations. He's still here.

If Lane were to agree beforehand, I think he could theoretically communicate portal targets to Thomas.

Since he left on bad terms I doubt that happens.

It’s fun to speculate but it doesn’t matter if we’re not good with that. It’s not our money being spent directly.

Here is the problem with Kiffin:

Early Signing Period:
December 3-5, 2025

Playoff Schedule:
First round (Dec. 19-20)
Quarterfinals (Dec. 31-Jan. 1)
Semifinals (Jan. 8-9)
National Championship (Jan. 19)

Ole Miss is 7-1.

Kiffin's remaining schedule:
South Carolina
The Citadel
Florida
at Miss State

It's a negative but I don't think it should be a deciding factor. Get the right coach and recruiting/portal will fix itself. I wouldn't let this weigh in unless it was 2 coaches tied and you could get one of them early.

Sounds great, but Kiffin has to agree to all that as well. I do not think he will. If he does well to finish the season he will get paid either way and will likely be the #1 guy on the market for almost any job opening. The LSU job might open again in 2-3 years.

NIL between the 2 right now isn’t that different

Exactly. It’s not that different with a lame duck coach at LSU who ran off most of the boosters and alumni. LSU’s NIL potential is not even remotely close to being tapped. A coach who galvanizes LSU’s resources would make what Ole Miss is working with look like a Fortune 500 company to a lemonade stand.

HS kids gets an offer from SEC A and wants LSU to match it. Who makes the decision to match that offer?

Austin Thomas (GM) and Frank Wilson (recruiting coordinator). The exact same people that will be in the exact same role at LSU under the next coach, whomever that coach is.

And interesting side note: both have direct ties with Kiffin.

I wouldn't go north of 11 and that may not get it done

but dang guys, this is getting way our of control

this is a publicly funded university and now we're paying players

the whole system needs to be reset

needs to be incentives not auto pay

just my opinion

I'd take Lane and be happy aboutr it

but if we pony up 15 a year and start with a big contract

I have a bad feeling about it

bring in a hungry coach if Lane won't come for something reasonable

we didn't over pay for Les, didn't over pay for O and won titles

overpaid for Kelly and look what happened? He didn't want to work

Lane really wants more NIL support. Not only could he get paid more at LSU and with a longer contract but he could have more money for assistants and NIL. LSU is a destination place for coaches and players while Ole Miss is a launching pad.

OM had the 3rd most expensive roster in the country last year while your governor just got on TV and essentially said LSU is broke and to stop spending big money on football

We aren’t paying Lane 15 million a year and he isn’t coming here. There are other good coaches besides Lane. We may be better off going that route anyway.

Personally, with the way things are going in the sport, I think there's a lot of value in hiring a coach for $8mil and spending the extra $7 on nil v. $15m for the HC. Won't win the press conference, but will have a more talented team

Ole Miss fans are shaking in their boots. What if ole miss loses to USCE and UF? What if they just lose 1 and then lose in the first round?

Austin Thomas.

You are here because you are scared. I don’t know or care if we hire Kiffin but you are here because you know we can. I live in MS it’s comical how scared every ole miss fan is.

AT is probably gone. Career suicide working for that athletic department. Proof to not always follow the money.

Dude you sound like an idiot. Are you trying to say Ole Miss has more money and resources than LSU?

You are the idiot here. The only reason he left OM was because LSU doubled his salary. That is what it took to get him. He also works under the football coach. This isn’t an NFL GM. The GM handles the day to day dealing with players and agents and a liaison between the coach and the NIL people. His coach didn’t even make it 75% of the way through the season and the new coach probably wants his own guy in that role. But keep calling me stupid when again you have no idea how any of this works.

Overall, no. More willing to spend what we have - seems like it at the moment.
