He goes 3-0 in those and we aren't having this discussion. 1-2? Yeah, it's gonna be hot to start 2020.

Agreed

Something is up in Texas. I don't know what it is but you just don't have a line in the transfer portal and decommits out of the blue like they have. I don't know what it is but something isn't right.

Herman has 100% job security. He is immensely popular with the boosters and fans.

Next year is their year. They will be better across the board. They were almost cursed this year. So I say he turns it around next year.

Ehlinger's coming back next year. I think they're going to be very strong.

Personally, I think TH will have his best record at UT next season (probably 10-2) and get a contract extension. His recruiting is too good to throw him out anytime soon.

Ehlinger has carried them for the past 2 seasons. Their overall roster might be better in 2021, but the results might be the same. Ehlinger is going to be hard to replace.

It took Mack Brown a while too. It wasn’t until his 8th season that he won the Big 12. Their first BCS bowl was his 7th season
How come so many people are ready to throw Herman out?

Current players telling recruits not to come to Austin (and subsequent decommits), players not showing up for practice because they can't stand coaches (namely WR coach Drew Mehringer).

That’s absolutely not accurate. My entire family is UT alums, talk to UT fans all the time.

Has it reached a point to where they’re done with him or he’s getting fired this year? ... Certainly not. But it’s getting to a tipping point for many. The next 3 games are very important for Herman in deciding whether he is is truly on the “hot seat” for 2020 or not.

LINK: Herman rails against misinformation spread by Texas fans and recruits and media

quote:

Losses on the field.

Decommitments.

Transfers.

In the midst of two losses in three games, including a narrow victory over the Kansas Jayhawks, the Texas Longhorns faced a potential crossroads in the third year of head coach Tom Herman in Austin heading into last Saturday’s game.

Questions began arising about the team’s mental state, particularly in regards to the younger players as Texas lost promising freshman offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd to transfer, along with sophomore wide receiver Jordan Pouncey.

Meanwhile, three recruits decommitted from the 2020 recruiting class.

quote:

The response on Saturday helped prove that, but won’t stop Herman from working to manage the narrative in the future — he understands that if he loses the fanbase, then his ability to keep his job is severely compromised.

Herman is Safe for now, of course, but it only takes a 10-minute venture to their boards to see growing questions and general uneasiness about Herman’s potential as UT’s head coach. And there is absolutely a contingent that is ready to move on from Herman ... they’re in the minority, for now, but they’re there.

I heard a great deal of booing at the Kansas State game when we punted on fourth-and-short and ended up being down 14-0. It was deathly quiet in Memorial Stadium, other than that.

But to give, the whole team credit, they didn't fold their tent and ended up winning.

But my my, it was dicey there early on.

I'm a graduate, have had season tickets for a quarter-century and didn't miss a game at all, home or away, from 1992 until 2007, but I will be the first to admit tha we have the worst fans in the country.

Arrogant and entitled, and quick to give up.

My brother, sister, dad all went to UT...I grew up in east Texas, i was the “stray” that went to LSU. Mom/Dad and brother live in Austin.

Austin this year was awesome for our “family divided”...we’re all looking forward to next years game in BTR. Gonna be fun

Texas will be in the playoffs next season. 12-1, but wins over OU and LSU get them in.

They’ll lose to someone they shouldn’t.

Maybe. Not sure he can do it with a whole new assistant coaching staff, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We shall see. A lot of it will depend on the hires that are made. And if he can put his ego aside and hire real P5 assistant coaches

Herman has a way about him that makes people (players, fans, etc) want to turn on him at the first sign of struggle/adversity... and that’s on him. And I’m not sure he can fix that.

That’s a double-edged sword.

And could actually speed up his potential firing if expectations are failed to be met.

No faster way for a high-profile coach whose seat is already warm to get fired than to start the season Top10 and then go 8-4 or worse.

He will get his arse kicked even worse next season in Death valley. That's in his future for sure.
