Why haven’t colleges gone to a low base salary with like a $1,000,000 bonus for every win recorded?

Seriously asking why we don’t.

Not easy to change the market and coaches probably want more stability in their salary so I doubt they would go for it.

Would you accept a contract where you can either make $30,000 or $250,000, partially dependent on things that are outside of your control like your QB blowing his knee out or a player getting arrested? No one would take that deal

The market would need to change.

Because you wouldn't be able to hire even a decent coach when other schools would offer a guaranteed salary.

In a comparative scenario it’s more like would you work a job that pays you a salary of $40k all in, or one that pays you a base of $20k and a performance scale of $0-$80k in potential bonus opportunities?

I’d take the latter.
