I see it referenced here repeatedly that LR would leave because OU won’t spend the money he needs to get ready for the SEC. But everything I’ve seen on line shows that OU actually has a bigger annual football budget than we do already.

Has anyone been there? Do their facilities compare to ours across the board already? Seems like a false narrative to me.

OU doesn’t think they need to spend that much to have a quality coach. They think being a blue blood is worth the job alone. They’re about to be put to the test on that.

I think one of his biggest problems is that they don't like to pay assistant coaches and it limits him in who he can hire.

Aren’t they about to have to pay like $70 million just to leave the Big 12? That might be why they’re not willing to spend at the moment

It's not so much about resources being available.

It's more about is he worth the counter offer.

Im in the camp that he's not. Just go hire another up and coming assistant or young coach for $5 million.

Been there many times. Facilities don’t even compare to ours.

That’s false. The school has more money but not the athletic department. The athletic department has roughly the same amount as LSU.

They have more donors who give to academics than LSU but that money can not be used for athletics.

This is good info. So they would need a big initial investment to get up to speed with us.

Annually, they seem to fall 7-8 on the list, with us being 15-18. So they’re spending money on something.

People keep saying that and it is NOT accurate. It is not deficit. All universities take out loans to pay for buildings and centers etc. LSU’s debt last I checked was around 800mln. And that’s the university in both cases and not the athletic departments. Both athletics make a Tom of revenue.

Most people on futbol message boards wont understand how an AD (as a 501(C)(3) Corp) operates lol

Try to explain to them the difference between borrowing for capital improvements vs operating costs would be lost on them.

This is a bold strategy, we have seen places like Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, and Texas do this and be lost in the woods for years. Now I do think that OU has a much better program in place to help support a new coach, much better than Texas and Michigan, but I do think that OU was a little spoiled with how seamless that transition from bob to Riley was. If I was OU, I might reach out to Bob about coming back and taking over for 4-5 years to help the school transition to the SEC. He knows the school, the politics, and what it takes to win.

Of course OU has money. Anyone that thinks they're some struggling AD is delusional.

They just extended Riley last year though. I'm sure they're not keen on extending him every offseason just to keep him. Riley took over an 11 win team, they're probably of the mindset that they can find someone to do the same.

Not to get in a huge debate on organizational leadership and change. Riley might actually grow as a leader and HC if he moves. But he is currently on cruise control and it shows. I think both parties might be better off with an amicable divorce.

OU will be fine. And if not I will have a lot of free saturdays to go do stuff.
