He probably would.
Gets to go back close to where he grew up and get another big payday.

The mediocrity and low seasons here and there is perfectly acceptable for a program like Syracuse. And he will have the 10-3 type year occasionally I think when things break right and he really molds a QB

If he is a motivated Dan Mullen, he will do well.
If he's unmotivated, I think the floor at Cuse will be lower than at his previous stops, which may not end well.

Maybe so. I’ve always thought highly of Mullen as an X’s and O’s guy and developer of talent. I think he’d be a really high end OC at either level but he probably feels like he’s above that.
Syracuse doesn’t provide the floor of front 7 recruits like State had but there’s probably a whole lot less outside noise than Florida at both, and he doesn’t seem like he handles that well. For the level of program Cuse is I think it would be a great hire, better than taking a shot on some MAC flavor of the month

Yeah but it was weird how he was nosediving and damn near trolling Florida at the end there.

They definitely could do worse, and probably not do better, at least not obviously better (hypothetically they could hire a young up and comer who is the real deal but that's highly unlikely).
If he does well, its a HR. If not, no big deal as it would be the same as hiring some other C-USA/MAC guy who doesn't get it done.

That's when he was unmotivated.
If he brings that same level of effort to Cuse I think it could be a total shite show.
Still worth the risk for Cuse, because it's Cuse.

I was leaning towards he wouldn't be interested in the Syracuse job. I stand corrected.

Doesn’t he already live in Connecticut?

I wouldn't hire a coach out of the TV booth, especially a coach who wasn't overly successful at his last job.
Had he done some analyzing for Saban (or whomever), then sure.

That would be a mistake to take that job. Something better will come along this year or next. Syracuse is a no win dead end job.

I think he lives near Lake Oconee

That's why it's probably a good place for him.
Low expectations so he won't have to deal with much pressure or recruit hard.
He could win 6-7 games most years and occasionally win 8-9 and would be fine.

It's the Mississippi State of the ACC. Perfect fit

For sure. I think a lower stress job might prevent that (and I don’t know all the inside details of what happened at the end at Florida) but those are questions you would want answered. It was not pretty

Mullen would be a homerun coaching hire for the Orange. He wasn't on my list because I never thought he would want the job.

Bottom of the barrel Power 5 job. Freeze your arse off, shovel snow, get recruiting scraps, play in empty old dome, watch some basketball and lacrosse, get a paycheck for 4 yrs and move on.

Where does the perception that Mullen doesn't recruit hard come from?
Here are his recruiting rankings at Florida:
2018- 14
2019- 9
2020- 9
2021- 12
