Old 247Sports article on Willie Taggart's (South Florida) offense

I know the majority of the board is concerned with the LSU hire, but with additional searches being conducted throughout the country, I think Willie Taggart is a name to keep an eye on.
LINK
He laid the groundwork for Western Kentucky's offensive footprint before he left for USF, where he began doing the exact same thing. I understand the AAC is no juggernaut but the numbers his teams have consistently put up is very impressive, and somebody is going to do very well by hiring him.

Yep. He won't get any looks by LSU but he's going to be a star somewhere.

I think if Temple loses, allowing USF to sneak into their Conference championship and win it, he will definitely turn some more heads.

He's certainly a way better coach than O. Taggart even fired his OC and DC the same year because he wasn't happy with production. Which is a decent enough indication that he can recognize problems and fix them.

Have heard he's recruited well, too. He hails from Florida so I'm sure he can carry that connection with him anywhere. His career trajectory at USF also is excellent:
2-10
4-8
8-5
9-2 (currently)
His QB is only a Junior, and has accounted for 3700 yards and 35 touchdowns (passing and rushing). So they'll probably be great next year if Taggart stays, and that will be enough for a big time program to go all in.

While he's been good you can't make that jump with the other big fish on the board. Alleva had months to get this right. It's Herman or Jimbo. Anything else is a massive fail. Even then you pick from Gundy, Fuente or Fedora.

Never thought he'd be coming to LSU this year, just posted the topic to discuss him in the realm of other open coaching positions.
I do agree with you FWIW and the fact that we haven't been all in on Herman (with a two month head start, no less) is God damn infuriating.

I attend a USF game on occasion. He has done a great job turning that program around. He's doing it with mostly local players who were overlooked by the big boys in Florida.
His offenses are creative where he uses multiple spread sets and the QB is often used to run the ball.
His defense is similar to Dave Aranda's. Multiple looks and lots of exotic blitzes.
Somebody will hire him soon. USF has no fan support. Ray James stadium is empty for games.

Let's be honest, he's basically a coach we would go after in case we strike out on everyone. He's better than O by some margin.
He's going to get a big job somewhere and do really well.

He is an excellent coach. He will take a Fuente jump next year.

You guys would be much better off with Taggart than those losers like Holgerson and Fedora. That guy is a good football coach and his stock is rising.

If Arkansas were looking for a new coach, I'd have Taggart and Jeff Brohm near the top of my list and be happy with either.

I think he has a great shot to get USF into a NY6 bowl as the group of 5 representative next year, and earn himself a paycheck.
Depending on how Bert does, you may have your wish next year.
