After reading people's posts and hearing what people say on radio, Internet, papers, and TV I am positive of 3 things.

1. There is a lot of overvaluing of the position based on being in SEC.
2. Long is confident and has total trust of Chancellor and President.
3. Whoever the hire will be, people won't be happy because it was not X. Which goes back to point 1.

Long I truly believe will make best available hire as he's done last two times.

ETA: I'm sticking with Chud and Schotty still.

When the Urban Meyer stuff started there last night I realized they had finally jumped the shark on this coaching search.

I also love how when it isn't the person they stated the answer is always "Guys I finally got ahold of my source and he's as stunned as anyone. He says there was a late push from Coach X's school that secured him but he was all but out the door. This hire came out of nowhere and was a last minute deal..."

guess someone or a media member could FOIA Long's notes/phone records in regards to the coaching search and find out he contacted the usual suspects of the agent world.

I'm very confident Long is using a non-university issued phone to conduct this search and there is no legal way to obtain that information.

I heard Long was using a certain attorney for all back channel negotiations. That name has been floated around here.

So Long isn't the complete moron that he is made out to be?

A portion of our fan base is going to be unbearable if his hire doesn't win the press conference.

If Long make does "win the press conference" he was forced to make the hire.

If Long does not "win the press conference" he made the hire completely on his own.

It is a Bassett Law Firm attorney, since they're contractually obligated to use them.

OK.

As far as the names you keep mentioning, I can't see Long hiring guys who have names half the fan base can't spell...

I expect so, he'll probably explain how the transition will work, hey need to study and get ready for finals, strength/training, etc.... There are a lot of administrative things that need to be done, we don't want to let the team run around on their own.

I bet it has nohing to do with a new coach.
