Odds for next HC at Penn St per Bodog

Murphy is the one of those that I see as a real possibility.

Sumlin's offense isn't made for the Big 10 while Mullen and Schiano are underachievers.

Schiano also has the added knock of being a Penn State insider as a former assistant there, which is not what they need in the wake of the scandal there. The incestuous nature of the football coaches, the athletic director's office, and the school needs to be rooted out and it's hard to do that with a former JoePa guy coming in as coach.

I misspoke... I meant "overrated" instead of "underachievers. As in "hyped out of proportion with their on-the-field results".

Both meet that criteria, mainly because those records are fattened up on cupcakes with very few quality wins buoying them.


Schiano had one really good season at Rutgers and has been otherwise mediocre given how piss-poor the Big East is compared to the days of Miami and Virginia Tech at the start of the 2000s.


The 11-2 campaign in 2006 did impress me a bit, as opposed to many of the 8-win and 9-win ones since then, but they lost 2 of the 3 games they played against ranked teams that season.

Quality wins for Schiano at Rutgers? Over ranked Louisville in 2006, Pitt in 2008, and South Florida in both 2007 and 2009.



As far as Mullen goes, he's a step up from Croom but that's not saying much.

They're past the point where their only wins are coming against I-AA teams like Maine, but they're not at the point where I'd recommend Mullen for another BCS job.

Mullen's 3-year record is 20-17, but he's 9-15 against the SEC in that time.

Of those 9 wins, 6 have come against Vandy, Kentucky (3), Ole Miss (3), Georgia, and Florida. The only ranked teams they beat were Ole Miss in 2009 and Florida in 2010, both of which were in the 20s.

I'm curious as to this, too....

Every thread I look at talking about Mullen and MState bamasgot13 has to throw in a negative comment.

I pretty much have come to the conclusion of it being a backhanded flame at NIH...or just trying to ruffle his feathers.

I am assuming there is a limit to how much one can bet. It would be really easy for Mullen or someone close to him to place a rather large wager on it not happening or happening, whichever the case.
