Why would Aranda leave?

Why would Aranda leave?

This game was around the time Herman had to meet with his team to talk about rumors. That's a distraction period.
LSU firing Miles wasn't a distraction for LSU? Doesn't look like it. If the guy couldn't get his ranked team focused because of a rumor then he sucks at that aspect of coaching. LSU players today don't know who their coach will be next year.

Agree, Aranda would probably stay if LSU has a coach with a 3 years contract so he can replace him.

The difference is that the current head coach at Houston probably knows he's gone. O is auditioning. Herman is on his way out. It's a lot harder to get motivated for a guy who probably doesn't want to be there vs a guy who is at his dream job. But I still give a lot of credit to O for motivating the guys.

Why would that be the consensus? Do O and Aranda not get along? Seems like they have a pretty solid relationship/defense right now.

quote:How would O feel about having a head coach in waiting? Teams who have head coaches in waiting usually have a coach who has already been successful for a period of time and are close to retiring. If the plan is to replace O in 3 years, why would he even bother?

Quitting on his team is an attribute that makes him a desirable head coach?

That is a bullshite rumor that was started on this board. CEO made Aranda associate head coach which came with a raise for Aranda.

If O says "I don't want to go anywhere", we believe him.
If Herman says "I don't want to go anywhere", do you believe him? It's harder to keep guys motivated.
Again though, I'm not saying that's the only reason Houston lost against SMU, but to deny that there are some distractions going on is kind of blind.
And since you brought it up, I'll go ahead and bring up the time O left USC high and dry before their bowl. It wasn't his players fault he didn't get the job and he didn't leave to go to a new job. I was kind of disappointed in him for that, TBH.

Well, not making excuses for CEO like LSU fans do for Herman. But, CEO took over USC after Kiffin was 4-7 in the last 11 games which lead to his firing - 4-7. CEO took over the team and lead them to a 6-2 record including beating the #5 team in the country.
USC still chose to replace him after his phenominal accomplishment. It's not like he left the team with no coaches.

AND??? USC had three coaches in one year and still weren't distracted enough to lose their bowl game?
I'm sure Haden said something like "hey, coach O, you did a great job turning the program around and winning after the previous guy had gone 4-7. Here, meet your replacement, we'd like for you to hang around and help get the team motivated for the bowl game."

Was O promised the job? Or did he know that was a possibility in an interim head coaching position.
I just hope we have a solid backup for our interim HC for the bowl. I think we do.

A shitty hand? Are u dumb? He inherited a veteran team with two NFL RB's and the best DC in football...

In the event that we strike out with our first 5-6 offers, then there has to be a back up plan, a fall back position where Orgeron becomes "an" option.
Even so, the only plausible scenario under which LSU has some incentive to retain Orgeron as HC is one in which Aranda is contractually escalated to assume control over 24 mos, at which time Orgeron is demoted to DC, or resigns.
He should certainly be very well compensated in the process, but there is no reasonable, legitimate pathway to the retention of Orgeron on any sort of permanent basis.

If the coach is O or Jimbo we retain Aranda either way unless somebody offers him a head coach position.
Someone could certainly buy him out and hire him as DC somewhere else...but i dont think that would happen. His fastest path to a good head coach gig is to stay here for 2 more years.
The whole point of hiring O or Jimbo is that they are likely to keep a lot of the current staff intact.
Jimbo would likely keep Raymond, Juluke, Craig, Aranda, O if he wanted to stay, and maybe even Grimes for a year because of recruits we already have signed.
O would be much the same.
The difference with Jimbo is that you basically gain a coach because Jimbo is the OC.
