Not a bad hire but he doesn't move the needle. He's a hire you make 10 years ago.

I don't think Kelly is a bad coach at all. He's actually really good. However, I can't see how he'd bring much coaching ceiling with him here. I know he had disadvantages at Notre Dame and this is probably his hailmary to end his career with a championship.

All that being said, he does nothing for me and much of this fanbase. His berating attitude towards his players I can't see being a good fit with LSU's major culture problems inside the program right now. You have the murder questions. He's old as hell, which brings tons of negatives in itself. How long is he our coach? Is he on decline with age now? Can he still relate with recruits and recruit as the highest level in SEC?

This seems like a "safe" hire you make when you whiff hard on your #1 to try to regain the legs of the program. We're a mess right now so we need direction he'll bring stability but will he bring us a championship? Was this LSU's intention? Stabilize the program and prepare for the next big hire? Can he break the stigma of being the current Big Game Bob Stoops of NCAA? Can he break his stubborn movement on his offensive schemes?

IDK a lot to like about the hire but a lot to dislike too. I'm pretty apathetic on the hire. He's a very good coach unquestionable but if we went this direction I was hoping for a younger upcoming coach who could maybe innovate and grow with us.

tl;dr we could've did waaaay worse(Bob Stoops wtf) but I don't think he's a homerun hire. He's a good hire but not homerun. He would've been a homerun 10 years ago not right now, IMO.

Anyways, whatever, let's ride.

I believe we passed on him before. He wanted to be here. Crazy how things turn out.

ND is 11-1, No. 6 in the country, with the No. 4 recruiting class. THIS YEAR. 2021, not 10 years ago.

Dude, we won a championship with Les fricking Miles and Ed fricking Orgeron.

This is about recruiting. I do agree that he's not a sexy hire. Because of that, I think this year's class may suffer. Hopefully, he brings a couple of very sexy coordinators with him to help with that.

And, your concern about him being an a-hole is fair. But, that's never kept him from winning before. It may be a bumpy ride until he fills the roster with guys he can coach.

Yes, but he whiffs big time in the biggest games. Can he recruit against the powerhouses around him in the SEC? He has Jimbo on his borders and Saban raiding Louisiana right now. That's 2 elite recruiters I have questions about. Kelly is suppose to be a pretty good recruiter but I'm not sure he's elite in the SEC. I hope I'm wrong about that.

He needs to absolutely homerun the assistant hires and remove Jimbo/Saban from Louisiana.

I think it's valid concern with his berating attitude it might not work on LSU's roster. They'd have to clean house for that because I have serious questions will they respect a guy like that with their current ME attitude. Is he the right guy to instill a new culture? I find that highly questionable and won't work in my opinion with younger players. It works at Notre Dame because he's established there and built something up. He has to earn his players respect here.
