Three years ago, he was the defensive coordinator of a 2008 USC defense that a lot of people were calling the greatest of all-time. How things change quickly...

I know the UW defense hasn't been that good this year (got killed by ORE, gave up 51 to NEB, 60 to Stanford), but that Alamo Bowl was pretty much was the icing on the cake. Also, it was one thing for them to be bad defensively in 09 and 10 as they are a new staff, but 3 years of meh defense really may have justified a firing, and UW had some talent to work with in the past w/guys like Teo Neshiem, Mason Foster, Dennison, Trufant.
Kind of interesting to see how things have turned out for him since leaving SC. Sure looks like Pete C. ran the show pretty darn well

With the talent that USC had in 08, I could coach that team and have the best defense in the nation.

Exactly not too mention that Pete Carroll was the actual coordinator.
This will be a huge hire for Sark. The UW offense is in great hands but they need to drastically improve the defense if they ever want to be better than a 7 win team.

Yes, one of the highest paid in the country. He was set to make $750,000 next year.
I remember when UW first hired him, all of the fans were really excited. Then the USC fans stopped by and told everyone that he was just Pete Carroll's puppet and it was really Carroll that was calling the defenses. Turns out they were right. Holt didn't have a clue what he was doing.

He is a top 2 DC in the world along with Nick Alliotti per Herbstreit.

Excited to see who Sark goes after.
Only one defensive coach from the beginning of the season will be back next year, Defensive line/special teams coach Johnny Nansen.

I tell you Baylor's defense wasnt much better that Holt's at least in that particular game.

I'd be surprised if the new DC keeps him around. I think he's just sticking around to keep recruiting going because he's the recruiting coordinator.

Him and Rocky Seto are two if the names being thrown around. I kind of want to stay away from hiring a previous USC assistant though. I think it's become pretty clear that Carroll is the brains behind the defense.

indeed he was. UW can do better than those two you mentioned. I saw that Holt was making something like 650K a year so for that type of cash they should be able to get someone pretty good.
