Barry Swtizer. Jimmie Johnson. Pete Caroll. The only guys to win a college title and super bowl. Thats the entire list.
Recruiting: obviously this is the biggest difference. No need to say anything else about that.
I think the most overlooked difference, though, is management of players. With NFL players, you dont have to micromanage their lives like college kids. NFL players hold each other accountable and know what is expected of them. College players, not so much. You have to stay on them to make sure they get to class, stay in shape, etc.
I think thats why you see the disconnect between NFL and college head coaches. College coaches try to treat NFL players like college kids, and it doesnt work. (Saban, Chip Kelly, Urban Meyer). And NFL guys are either too laid back or bad recruiters.
All this is to say, i think we need to stick with hiring a proven college HC. All this talk about Joe Brady or Mike Tomlin is fun. But its not what our program needs

Because if coaching in college and the NFL were the same, then More coaches would be on the list. Saban would have a super bowl ring. Urban meyer would be on his way to one, which isnt going to happen

What is the list of coaches that had legit success in the NFL then went to college after? Honestly asking.

Dan Devine won a division title with the Packers then later won a national title at Notre Dame. He coached for years in college before his NFL stint though so not really sure that counts.
Can’t think of good NFL coaches leaving for college in the super bowl era at all

I think 33 different coaches have won a superbowl
So close to 10% of superbowl winners have won a national championship also.

Bill Walsh won a few Super Bowls, had two stints at Stanford. One before the 49ers the other after.

For the most part, it’s a totally different skillset needed to achieve elite and sustained success at the 2 levels.
Same game, but totally different organizational setups and day-to-day operations.
