Hyams reporting UT AD says no official offer yet. But one source says LK is assembling a staff and another says UT will make one more run at Butch Davis first. Oh well.

maybe they want to let Phil have this last weekend before announcing. talk radio guys speculating if it is indeed LK, his Dad might join as DC? Orgeron mentioned a lot also.

Rumor is that he will be the next coach and he will bring his father, Monty Kiffin, in as the DC. Could be a hell of a defense in Tennessee for years to come.

Honestly, I think that Lane Kiffin will be a great college coach. He actually had the worst franchise in the NFL playing pretty well before flesh on bones fired him.
Plus, if he gets Orgeron to come along, Tennessee will soon have one of the most talented teams in the nation again.
Just because Kiffin didn't deserve to be hired at Oakland doesn't mean he won't be a good coach.

Done deal, UT hires Kiffin, contract says they will pay him close to 2 mil.
Also, a very good indication he is bringing Coach O and his Dad Monte Kiffin.
I can see Lane calling offense as HC and his Dad running the Defense.

I'm never 100% clear on how the tamerping rules work. If Monte comes with him as DC, does he [Monte] have to resign from his job with the Bucs before a contract with UT can be negotiated? If not, does he resign midway through the NFL season to help start building a staff/recruiting?

If they can swing it, more power to them. I just can't see Coach O leaving a position coaches position in the NFL for a position coach gig in college. If they were bringing him in as a DC, that would be one thing. But hey, if Tenn can make it happen that would be huge for them.
