We could really use some beef in the middle. Our team was at its best when Justin Hamilton and Christian Ringo were disrupting teams.

That would be a great hire. I'd rather him at LSU than the clown we currently have.

Yeah, I'm skeptical because I think O already tried to get him to LSU. We'd probably have to get him up over $250k

Looks like he has an offer from Arizona state, and listed as his favorite.

Tim Leger, ULM's recruiting coordinator and WR coach and Gunner's dad, is the new name being floated for WR coach.

Great hire from a recruiting standpoint. He will have the same title with the Cajuns as Wr coach and recruiting coordinator.

This staff will be a big upgrade in recruiting Louisiana with Sale (North Lousiana), Juluke (NOLA and BR) and Leger (SW LA). Hud's staff struggled with relationships with LA high school coaches. Shouldn't be a problem with this group

It looks like the offensive staff is now full and 3-4 more spots left on defense

I think we'll probably look to hire a tight ends coach and let Des work with Napier and the QBs

Also, Des has great relationships around Acadiana. They were obviously trying to cover all of Louisiana with their assistant hires. Now we'll see if they can coach.

Matthew Powledge from ULM is also coming. He's their TE Coach/Special Teams Coach. Might do the same here.

Advertiser -- Good stuff in here.

quote:

“Seeing what they’ve done over there over the last few years really got my attention and really served notice, having to compete against those guys in recruiting,” said Leger, who began as a full-time assistant at McNeese State in 2007 after six years as St. Thomas More’s offensive coordinator and then served as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at ULM the past two seasons.

“When we first got to Lake Charles versus the last couple of years has been really different. We were able to come in before and get some really good players around the area. With the commitment they’ve made to facilities and everything else, it’s gotten harder and harder over the years to compete.”

quote:

“The fact that it’s home, the fact that Gunner is there and the fact that the commitment they’ve made from the top down with Dr. (Joseph) Savoie and Dr. (Bryan) Maggard that is really unparalleled in this conference and really in the Group of Five, it was too good to pass up.”

Like at ULM, Leger will serve Napier as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator.

quote:

“We talked about the state of Louisiana. How he (Napier) sees it and how we saw it was exactly the same. If you’re going to have the name across your chest, then you need to have a presence in every single school in the state every spring.”

So in Leger’s mind, it’s about developing relationships annually.

quote:

“You don’t just go to Marksville High when Marksville High has a player,” Leger said.

“ You got to Marksville High every spring, so when they do have a guy, the relationship is already there.

“That’s coach Napier’s idea as well. That’s something he and I saw eye to eye on right away. That was exciting. He has an inside-out theory on recruiting as well. You start in your backyard and work out. If there’s every any doubt, you go with the inside guy first.”

Like Coach Leger a lot. My dad was a long time coach in SW Louisiana and those quotes are spot on. He came to our high school every year to visit my dad, regardless of if we had any players he was interested in, which we did not. When it was time for me to play college ball, we already knew him really well and it was an easy decision in me going play for him at McNeese. He's a heck of a coach and recruiter.

Cool, thanks for the insight. I like the guy. It was always funny to see him at the Tigue watching Gunner pitch. He was always careful to never wear any Ragin' Cajuns gear

Really? I don't know anything about the guy but it seems that ULM's special teams were good

that's funny b/c Coach O is always at McNeese stuff for his kids sporting the blue and gold

Leger is a very good coach/recruiter though (From my time knowing about him at MSU)

I was coached by Leger at STM before he went to mcneese. The guy knows what he’s doing and has a very progressive mind when it comes to offense. He’ll also do very well on the recruiting trail- he’s a players coach and know exactly what to say and when to say it to lure players to a program

That's because LSU doesn't really worry about McNeese. ULM fans would have burned Leger's house down

I feel like every other day I'm posting in this thread saying "damn, Napier is putting together a hell of a recuriting staff."

For guys like us, potential recuriting ability is enough to stir up some excitement for next year. but hopefully their coaching abilities make enough of an impact on the field to generate some excitement among the casual fans and students in the fall.

Even with Huds poor recuriting and bad coaching, last year's team was only a win away from bowl eligibility. Maybe some better coaching can put them over that hump next year.
