Craig Bohl would have been a great hire!
Age 56 - Born in Lincoln, NE

LB Coach - Nebraska 95'-99'
DC Coach - Nebraska 00'-02'
Head Coach - North Dakota St (104-32) 3 National Championships
You cant find a more qualified person IMO.

that record looks eerily similar to a certain coach of LSU. and lots of people think he sucks.

Mike Riley is just such a blah hire. He was no longer doing at that well at Oregon State. A losing record and downward trend in the last 5 years are major red flags.

Agreed, guy won every big game his last three years at NDSU. Including winning at K-State, would love to see what he could have done with Nebraska's resources. Would have brought power football back to Lincoln.

Yup, I don't think the complaints are nearly as bad if we was hired after that 2006-2008 run.

He was actually 4-8, but that is not much better. However, some people I work with up in Wyoming said that 4-8 was quite the feat based on what he had to work with. Nonetheless, I think he would have been a great fit at Nebraska.

Bohl would have been a fantastic hire. I'm personally holding out hope that Bielema dumps Jim Chaney as our OC and hires Brent Vigen away from him.

Whomever Nebraska hired or hires, their glory days are behind them. It's getting tougher for a guy from Lincoln Nebraska to recruit a kid from Texas (and that's where the majority of Nebraska's talent came from)now that TV has expanded the exposure of other schools. Why would a kid from Ft. Worth go to Lincoln now that TCU and Baylor for example are getting big exposure weekly. They used to go to Nebraska because they could get exposure because they along with Oklahoma were really the only players in that league and they could be caught on national TV at least 5X a year... now they can be on 10X a year, but so can OK State Minnesota as well. Bohl would still be facing 8-4 and 9-3 seasons at best.

Yup. Same problem facing Michigan.

Yes and no. Michigan is probably in a better position than Nebraska. Lincoln, NE is literally in the middle of nowhere, whereas Ann Arbor, MI is nearer major centers of population and bigger TV markets week in and week out even on the Big 10 network. Michigan can easily recruit kids from Ohio, W. PA and Detroit(all football rich areas) than Nebraska can recruit kids from Texas. Also a Michigan diploma means something in the real world. Michigan has more money from an alumni base than Nebraska does.

I cant believe Bohl wasn't even on their radar. North Dakota St was beating FBS teams regularly, not to mention he won 3 consecutive championships...that's impressive! I mean if people are saying Nebraska's best days are behind him (which I disagree with completely), then why wouldn't you hire somebody who knows what Nebraska is all about? Somebody who can develop players. Bohl knows the area like the back of his hand and the tradition of Nebraska football. This guy would have been a perfect fit. Im actually shocked they didn't go after him.
