Twitterverse blowing up about it.
Not sure about this one. NIU rode one outstanding player to 11-1 this year, and Kill left the cupboard very full.
ETA: now confirmed via CBS

Good hire if true

Just came across the screen during the SECCG ... so it's confirmed.

Surprised he didn't hold out for something better. Good hire for NC State though..

Solid hire for the Wolfpack. Doeren put together a couple of great years at NIU.
But as others have said, he was left a pretty good stable of players by Jerry Kill. I think he'll do well, though.

Regardless of who brought the players in, NIU has won the past two conference championships. Good move by NCSU.

Doeren, I believe, will do anywhere he lands because he stresses fundamentals, positioning, and he's a good game manager.
However, I'm not crazy about NCSt. for him. Geographically, recruiting connections can be made anywhere but it makes it easier when you already have relationships established.
I'm not 100% that's its a great fit for him, but NCST is a stepping stone program.

Watched a few NIU games this year and they were very well coached. Lynch had a career season but Doeren and staff gave him the tools to be successful...that's what good coaches do.

That's a great hire. Plus, it ends all the Franklin to NC State talk.

Arkansas proved this year that it really doesn't matter what level of players you have on the field if you don't have a good coach who can get them prepared week in and week out.
The dude has a pretty good winning pedigree though so I would have been happy with him as an Arkansas hire.

This x 1,000,000
I'll never discredit another coach using ex-coach's players ever again. If you prepare the team, lead them, motivate them, discipline them, and game plan to win a lot of games... you did a hell of a job on your own merits.

Terrible hire, imo

Let me guess ... you were expecting a big name hire like Cowher?

Just don't think he'll do well there.

Sounds like a lateral move.

Not sure why he would take a job like that with better jobs available. Either Tenn, Arky, or Auburn will hire a worst coach than Dave Doeren.

He recruited Florida while at Wisconsin and has been getting NIU in there recently. He definitely has recruiting connections there at least.
