Navy’s academic and military service requirements make it extremely difficult to get the talent to do this
Wasnt Hal n Mikes whole point of the Air Raid to give lesser talented teams a chance against bigger teams? Guys started out at Iowa Wesleyan for crying out loud

Yes. There is no reason the service academies can’t run the air raid.
But in reality, Navy and Army need to drop down to FCS and join the Ivy League.

Hopefully Navy ditches the triple option and goes to something like the air raid.
With the academy weight requirements, that’s just not possible unless they drop down to the FCS level. They have to run an offensive system that allows them to survive with undersized O Lines. There are some unique ones like what Chadwell runs that incorporate more passing, but the academies will always run something that is based on some type of run-oriented option.

Army tends to play teams out of the Patriot League every season. If they or Navy ever do drop down, I’m betting that’s where they would go.

I've love to see Houston Nutt at Navy. He'd be freaking amazing.

this is incorrect on multiple levels.
A. the option typically prefers bigger stronger linemen to be able to push and create holes, while the Air Raid typically prefers more nimble and mobile linemen (who tend to be smaller and more athletic).
B. Navy's O-line is almost identical in average weight to Washington State's O-line. (Washington State = 294.2 lbs average in last game played ; Navy = 293.6 lbs average in last game played), so they aren't "undersized" compared to a typical Air Raid team

This is wrong. The Triple Option favors more nimble linemen who can climb to the second and third levels to block LB'ers and safeties. The Gap Scheme nature of the offense negates the need for huge road graders. Having a big 1990's Nebraska line running the option offense is a plus. Air Raid teams, however, require larger linemen to block 1-on-1 pass rushers and the Zone scheme. Trying to execute this with smaller linemen is bad news.

Why? They compete at times with the big boys

Ivy League doesn’t play in FCS playoffs, but they’d absolutely wreck the Ivy League. I’d honestly say on a resume the only thing that gets a higher “wow” factor than the Ivy League schools for undergrad would be one of the service academies. Still my biggest regret to this day not pursuing that further

Correct. Air Raid linemen have to be able to stand up against bullrush

The service academies should drop all sports. They can’t compete with schools who can recruit transfers and talent.
