Mike Collins

He is on the list everytime they have a list. That is boosters who are his buddies at Randles Fine Meats, Frenchmans Bend and Sterlington La.

I fully expect them to hire him . That would be about right for ULM.

then he would likely last as a head coach shorter than larry porter, which is saying something

nah....ULM's expectations are much lower

I would not at all be surprised to see Corey Raymond go with him as his defensive coordinator

Could Raymond afford the pay cut?

Ulm can't afford any of the lsu assistants save for Peveto or Ensminger. And neither of those guys are going to leave lsu for ulm because it would be too much hard work. You have to hustle at ulm, it's a tough job.

Ensminger and Peveto are cashing checks for not much work now. They aren't about to change.

The writer who posted this article wrote a really good piece on Sunday night regarding the future of the program. That article discussed the financial issues at length.

That said, this list is likely complied of coaches who are affordable.

Thanks, interesting.

Question: why would it cost more than $3M for ulm to drop down to fcs? The writer just says this with no explanation and I'm not buying it.

as an athlete here I agree whole heartedly. I think the problem with that is we'd have to pay the sunbelt or someone so much money to go through with it. If what I've heard is right anyway.

Maybe so. Playing schools that are in driving distance of Monroe would be great. I don't get excited when ULM plays Idaho, but playing Northwestern State would add excitement...and I believe attendance....to the game.

They'd miss that 2mil+ payout for playing a couple of top tier SEC teams though.

Don't see them giving that up.

Ulm playing NW st, central Arkansas, mcneese, nicholls, Stephen f Austin, Lamar, SE la every year would be a good thing.

Nothing wrong with fcs football.

They could still do that. I believe many FBS schools schedule FCS opponents.

Even still, footballs operating budget would not need to be so high if they played FCS. Lower salaries, travel expenses, etc. I could be wrong but it makes some sense.

No they just need to do like ULL and get an athletic fund that can help fund it.

Yeah, because that's such an easy thing to get. Every time football raises money, Bruno takes that much away from their athletic fund. ULM takes a step forward and ends up two steps back.

ULL is operating on delusion, just as La Tech is. If the program is ok with year after year after year of hoping they'll be something other than a lower tier football program, more power to them. But in reality, that's all they've ever been and all they'll ever be.

If there are delusional ULM fans thinking ULM will one day be more than that, let them live in their delusion. It all eventually makes for a discouraged and absent fan base which in turn affects revenue.

I'm all for ULM dropping down to FCS. Nobody I know goes to an away game at Idaho...or Appalachian State, or South Alabama. Conversely, I know many who would make the trip to NW State, ect. And those folks from those schools would make the trip to Monroe also, increasing attendance revenue.

I guess there are other factors in play of which I know nothing about to keep them from dropping to FCS.

It's all about the $$$ and I'm guessing not only for football. Those OOC games fund the entire athletic budget and would get quite a bit less as FCS

a quick search and here's an older article from Fox Sports

quote:

Though FCS opponents are plentiful, they also command far less money on the guarantee game market. Big Ten teams will pay an average of about $438,181 for 11 home games against FCS teams in 2014 -- roughly $389,657 less than the cost of a one-time FBS game guarantee.

My years at NLU 91-93 were awesome for football, only rivaled by big time SEC games. Atmosphere/tailgating while obviously on a smaller scale was great. Living in the dorm, being ranked in top 10 and wake up Sat morning for an evening game with the drum beating was great.
Freezing watching a playoff game against Delaware, although we lost, was as much fun as I've had pregame and during.

I was for the move up to 1A but I can admit its time to move back if at all possible. FCS football with strong basketball and baseball would be great. Basketball appears to be on the right track in mens and womens; baseball though .
