i cant believe he had a presser like he did that saturday before the SEC championship game, adamantly said hes LSU's coach and hes not looking around and then is lining up assistants on the way home.
And this.

There was no way that Miles could pass up the chance to play in the title game.No dream job is worth that.
All Herbstreit did was force Miles to lie on national TV to keep from destroying his team's chances to focus on the SEC championship game.

Michigan never seriously even talked to miles about the job. 100% fact. Some alum gauged miles interest but the univ of Michigan never spoke to miles. As far as the herbie story, you wouldn't believe the story about how he got the info if I told it again. It's crazy and stupid but I posted it a long time ago.

I don't know all the details, but I'd be willing to bet if Herbie doesn't come out with that story, Miles doesn't have that presser but still goes on to win the BCSNG, Michigan doesn't pull the trigger on Rich Rod so quickly and has "serious talks" with Les after the game. Who knows where that would have lead?

The UM search committee recommended Miles, but the AD never offered him. That is one of the reasons there was such a big rift with the ex-players and admin during the RR era. Ex players wanted Miles, committee agreed, and he was never offered the job.

God do i wish LM would have came to Michigan in 07/08, no offense to you guys but we'd be so much better off now.

I think he was trying to contact the Michigan AD. When Herbie leaked the story prematurely he had no option, due to the BCS Championship game, but to shut that door. He was probably given an ultimatum by LSU.

I don't know if he ever was officially contacted or anything. I just believe that once Herbie leaked that story based off of whatever his sources said (which he still stands by) he forced Miles' hand. After that presser, no way UM was going to entertain Miles and no way Miles could have considered UM.
If Herbie doesn't report that story, Miles doesn't have that presser, wins the SECCG and the BCSCG and UM is probably still "searching" at that time. It isn't far fetched.

I want Miles to stay. However, he has earned the opportunity to pick his job among excellent, top tier jobs. Not many of us reach that level of success. If he wants to go back to the ice and snow and the general depression and malaise which is the upper midwest, with chronic institutional problems in the program, good luck to him. While we are not paradise, but we are a whole hell of a lot closer to paradise than Michigan is.

You can either believe me or not... Miles was as good as gone until the plane ride home... When the announcement was made that Pitt just upset W. Va, Miles was lining up his Michigan coaching staff... After the announcement, one assistant said to Miles,"we can't leave we are playing for the National Championship". I personally want Miles to stay.. He is a peculiar guy, but he has done well in recruiting, and has done a good job in hiring assistants. I must admit that i do think a change is needed at the offensive coordinator spot...
Hopefully Belowpar can give us a little inside scoop on my previous reply... I was told by an assistant coach's brother-in-law the story.. The coach was in fact going to Michigan with Miles.. I heard this Wednesday after we beat Tennessee. Unfortunately, I have no inside information this time around, because the coach is no longer on the lsu staff. I personally hope he stays, because i remember the Archer and Hallman yrs. very well.. After the Arkansas game, my collegue also said that the whole staff was ready to leave. An incident happened with one of the coach's young sons at the ballgame involving a loud mouth drunk fan. My buddy went and ate with the coaching staff after the ballgame that night.

Is that the one where Desmond Howard called Herbies cell phone and said Miles was going to Michigan...
...except it wasnt Desmond Howard and Herbie bought it and put it on air.
