Miles/Pellini job interviews/changes cost LSU a NC?

I think that Les Miles and Pellini from the mid part of the season has been distracted from coaching LSU due to job interviews and such. If I was an LSU fan I'd be pissed that those distractions cost us a shot at a MNC.

You have to wonder if the fact that we got worse as the year progressed if this didn't play a part in that.

Completely agree w/ both of you guys and yes we're angry.

I feel that it did and although I supported Les Miles from day one, I won't be sorry to see him go. He blew it.

For the Arkansas game for sure.

I don't buy it. Coaches are fathers, husbands, siblings, sons, etc...They deal with a lot of shite in their lives like everybody else. I just don't see how a job possibly opening up could distract them worse than anything else. What if Les's mom was diagnosed with cancer in the middle of the season? Would you blame us not winning a NC on that? Because I would think that would be a lot more likely to cause a coach to lose his focus than a job that may or may not be open.

It don't know if it outright cost us the NC, but to borrow a term from the legal/medical field I think it "diminished the chance of survival" of a N/C run.

yep. Also, the staff appears to be leaving the recruiting trail to luck as well: LINK

I dont think there is any evidence that he it costs us. I think it just one many things that fans are grasping out to explain the big "why".
THe only ones that we know are distracted are the fans or at the least the ones on here.

It may have but this team was so poor fundamentally that it was just a mater of time before time ran out. I hope Bertman and Co. do not make Miles too good of a counter offer.

Is it just an irony that we played our best game on the day that Michigan lost to Oregon start 0-2? That game started the calls for Carr's retirement. Since then, we have not played nearly that complete of a game. Perhaps this has been on Miles' mind a lot longer than just since Carr actually announced his retirement at the end of their season.

I think that this is one of those times where as an alumni and fan you just shake your head. For the past two years we have had the most talented team in the country and we will likely wind up with 2 sugar bowl wins-whoopee. 20 years from now Les will look back and realize that this was THE year to win the NC (Auburn and Fla at home, senior QB and players, etc.), and that my friends does not come along every day. For us fans, knowing that Les and Bo have been distracted makes you sick inside. Having this much talent and coming up short 2 years in a row is just gut-wrenching.

BUt again we don't know that.
I find this curious. Everyone is so worried about the COaches be distracted. However a few weeks back when Les and the Coaches were having to conduct internal investigation and deal with all the Varsity stuff no one seemed to think it was a big deal.
Despite that was one the one weekend where the Coaching staff could rest.
That was much more of a distraction I suspect than any of this

I don't think it's a distraction for the team, I think it's a distraction for the coaches involved.

bayou, I have never thought that the coaches were "overly distracted". and the varisty issue was one where the central figure of the team was solidly in control, in charge, and assuredly a stable force in the "aftermath". I think the coaches are professionals and I am talking more about the "team" in this....I don't know if "distracted" is the best word for this scenerio...maybe we should just say "affected". I cannot believe that with the powerful connection that there is between coaches and their athletes, that the "chemistry" of the team has not been jolted some ever since Les did the best he could to walk the fence about his future employement situation the day Carr resigned.
I still think he did the very best he could do under the circumstances...but it invariably had to shake the core of the team "karma". this time HE was the center of the storm, not the center of the haven from the storm....

Maybe. It would be in the realm of possibility I suppose. But I see little evidence of it. Just seeing some fans make statements it were. I saw a article that talked about a recruit that Les got hooked up with during the day and it impressing him. So Les seemed to be selling LSU well that weekend.
f we start to see evidence of it or quotes or people talking then I will feel diferent perhaps.
THereis just not much to support this premise from what I can see

It just seems to me a lot of people are giving Miles a free pass. I don't know if they actually think he's a good coach or they just hate Saban so much that they want Les to succeed, but he should be called out. Everytime someone bitches about Miles some old timer says, "Well you weren't around for Curly, so you don't know what losing is." That's bullshite, Les should have had the team ready.

Now that's just a lie. How can you say that no one seemed to think it was a big deal? It was all over the board for days or weeks. I myself expressed that Miles must have been ticked off cause he was looking forward to enjoying his kid(s)' pee wee football games which he kept talking about at his pressers.
br: your points are always well articulated and I've always respected your views and still do but I'm starting to think that your loyalty to the coaches are coloring your outlook.

As to to if this was a distraction to the COaches the concern and number of threads were not even close.
MY viewpoints are not really based on loyalty of the coaches. I just have a thing for facts. I also think that this more about people being frustrated and wanting to create a issue to get their anger out to a certain extent. IN a weird way that becomes a distraction also
THis week people said that the players were distracted becaus of it. Maybe so maybe not. But there has been no evidence of it.As to that I think its wrong to speak for the players and proclaim they were distracted when they were perhaps not.
It is not out of loyalty. It is just that there is no evidence to point to it.
