Gundy doesn't recruit much above the average of Oklahoma State. His recruiting ability is a legit question mark.

I don't understand this concern when the guy has shown that he can put a top 10-15 team on the field consistently at a school with far less talent to draw from in his home base than many other power 5 schools.

Of course I've always been one who is more interested in what my team looks like on Saturdays rather than how good they look getting off the bus.

I'd take Gundy here in a heartbeat and you can have your recruiters who can't outcoach most decent high school coaches

He's been the coach there for 12 years, which is pretty much how long modern recruiting rankings have lasted, so I'm not sure what you're comparing it to for historical recruiting rankings

Talk about a lateral move or is this a "Miles to Arkansas" pay raise tactic?

He's not going to Baylor. Move along

They are most likely hiring the Arkansas State coach

Said this from the start gundy would be available. Would have been a great hire wouldnt need an OC and could have resigned D. aranda. Oh well.

Dude wants out of Stillwater bad.

Bet Tennessee is kicking themselves for not hiring him 4 years ago.. he's been wanting out of there for a while.. That fallout with TBoone must be bad to want to leave your alma mater.. We could have gotten him at the Same discount as O and would have had a hell of an offense.. No way Aranda would have left knowing all he had to do was keep the opponent under 24 pts..

Alleva you suck, Gundy was my top choice in the search..

I think Spurrier said after about 10 years at one place it's time to move on and Gundy has been at OSU for almost 12 years. He probably realizes it's time to move on and wants to do it on his terms rather than following Les' example of hanging on too long.

wouldn't this be a lateral move?

I am sure the recruiting would be easier but he also played at Ok. State. Doesn't make much sense to me.

i couldnt agree more.. cant stay somewhere too long.. and I think he knows it.. winning 10 games at a second tier school in a state that doesnt produce alot of talent is really something.. Thats why he was my top choice.. his offenses are really good.

i think it would be a down grade honestly.. Thats why i dont think Kiffen goes to Houston.. Kiffen is above that job.. it would have been the perfect job for Oregeron though..

There have been rumors for a couple years now that he wants out. I don't think he and T Boone Pickens get along all that well

Exactly, that is why I thought LSU could land him. At the beginning of the season Pickens made a comment that he was 80-something years old and that when he invested the 100 of millions of dollars, he expected championships.

The WYYYYOOORRRRMMMPPP noises everyone's waking up to are the sounds of the goalposts being moved yet again.

Gundy would have been a great hire

Baylor fans need a reality check. They need to realize that before Briles got there they are one of the worst programs of all times. It's the 4th or 5th best job in its own state

Every single person in this thread praising Gundy woulda MELTED regardless if he was the hire because we didn't get Herman or Jimbo. Minus 1 or 2 posters NOONE would have been happy with a Mullet Gundy hire to replace Miles.....again

Actually there was a pretty large contingent here that thought coaches like Fedora or Gundy should get interviews.

Yeah a wide open offense that puts up points against anyone would have been to much for you i guess.Well no worries when LSU gets the 3rd choice on the list probably some 60 year old guy O knew 20 years ago then gundy will look pretty good .

If Gundy is this awesome coach, why hasn't be been able to get out of there?

Wanting out and trying to get out are two different things.

I don't get the obsession with Gundy either. He has not done anything worthy of the praise he gets here.

He just has a consistently good offense and has Oklahoma fricking State consistently in or around the Top 10; and has done worlds better than his predecessor, who we just fired. Meh.

I've had enough Rant stupidity for the day.
