I'm definitely in the minority here (downvote away), but while Saban is likely the greatest college coach of all time, hiring him at this point doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I know... insane, right? Hear me out.

With the help of Alabama's boosters, he pretty much built a machine at Alabama. I think that machine is just humming along now and that Saban isn't really doing much anymore other than selecting coordinators and coaches. It doesn't look like a Saban defense. It doesn't look like a Saban offense. The only part that looks like a Saban team is that they keep winning. Bama recruiting has a massive infrastructure with helpful donors. It doesn't take much effort from Saban. They have a shadow staff that pretty much has a back up for every coach, and quality ones at that. So a coach leaves and the next one steps in without missing a beat. At this point, Saban is mostly there for the press conferences.

At 70, I don't think he's got time to build the same machine at LSU and I'm not sure he has the fire to do so. I'm also sure that he's not as sharp as he once was. I know some brilliant people that have gotten up there in years, and not one has hit 70 without a significant drop off. So, I doubt Saban lives up to his public image anymore. And sadly, that means when Saban does depart, we aren't going to see the massive collapse of Alabama football. We're going to have to take them down ourselves.

When will y'all learn what a school buyout is?

I could be wrong, but usually the big buyout numbers you see are only if the schools fire them. I admit I don't know what his buyout is with another school signing him.

Saban is a year or two from being the Bear, Joe Pa, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler or Bobby Bowden.

He's showing his age for sure...

Saban won't retire for at least another 5 years.

We have been saying this for years.

Joe Paterno retired at 84. I could see Saban coaching another 8-10 years.

It's not as crazy as it seems......

Recruiting is what wins NC's and has led to his success. If you take a hard look, you will realize most of his uber talent is from LA.

He always faces a challenge trying to pull LA talent over LSU.

If he came back, it would be way simpler to get the talent he needs here.

Now THIS is an asinine take, in a thread that's built on asinine takes

You honestly think recruiting to LSU is in ANY way easier than recruiting to Bama, or that Saban has a tough time recruiting anyone to his program?

He's going to die on the sidelines from an anger provoked stroke.

And not at 84...

No thanks

That is as likely as Bear Bryant hopping out of his coffin and applying for the job. It amazes me you retards can manage to turn on a computer or phone let alone make a thread this stupid.

Yeah,

I think that Saban would have an easy time getting LA talent to stay at LSU vs going to Bama!

Take a look at the real play makers on Bamas teams in the past 10 years, MOST are from Louisiana.

He could easily replicate his wins at LSU that he has at Bama.

Saban is simply in a league of his own when it comes to results.

I was clamoring for Saban. After watching him last night, I don’t want him anymore. That melt on the targeting no call wreaks of senility

You just contradicted yourself.

Yes, there is a buyout should a school fire him without cause and a buyout should he leave for another school

Example, Jimbo Fisher has no buyout should he leave for another school.

Saban, should he leave for another school, is north of 30M.

Thank you

Nope, that’s Incorrect

Saban doesn’t have a buyout if he leaves for another job. Never has had a buyout for leaving in his contracts.

It’s actually been discussed a lot in Bama circles, especially earlier in his tenure there. At some point they just collectively basically said “not worried about it anymore, he’s not going anywhere”

It appears some are beginning to figure out what is happening. It was Saban all along. It was never about money or Alabama legacy. It is about one man’s legacy as a builder and winner. He would not be starting over. He would be finishing what he started. Woodward did his job and reeled in the biggest catch of his career. This hire will have implications for generations. Good job, Rantards. You finally put it together.
