Michigan, Les Miles and ESPN............

so imagine if you are someone VERY high up at Michigan that desperately does not want miles to be the next UM HC. what do you do to make certain that Miles isnt the UM HC?
Answer: you try to frick him and embarrass him on the day he plays for the SEC CG. How do you do it? You call someone who trusts you and will take what you say and run with it. Someone like the tOSU/ESPN Golden Boy Kirk Herbstreit.
So not only do you guarantee Miles wont be the next UM coach by creating a situation where you embarrass him on the biggest day of his coaching life and make him DENY UM, you get to embarrass herbstreit and ESPN in the process.
Somebody very high up at Michigan won the coaching search poker game today and had a double win (eliminating Miles once and for all and completely embarrassing Herbie) in the process.

even so, I really think the only thing that will ultimately shut the door on Michigan is us getting into the MNC game. Absent that, there was still a chance.

Skip said today to the media that Les agreed to his new LSU contract in priciple late Friday night in Atlanta
and I believe what today told Les was that the people that wanted him to be the next UM coach were not in control of the situation

There have been a few conspiracy theories out there, this is a plausible scenario.

right, but until the contract is signed, everything is still up in the air. Were we not possibly in the MNC game, he could easily be doing nothing more than attempting to start a bidding war.

all Miles had to do was stay quiet if this were the case.
He didnt and he shut the door on Michigan because the story this AM on Gameday embarrassed him and he in turn embarrassed Michigan and shut the door on them with his PC today.

awfully riksy if you ask me, he could just simply deny it or say no comment and then UM would look stupid in a couple of days if he doesn't get the job.

I've been thinking that as well. I do kinda feel sorry for the guy because nobody is more fit for it than him and that was his dream

Everyone looks stupid at this juncture EXCEPT for Miles.

not if he really intended to stay at LSU and winning the SECCG was his real priority and not leaving for UM
I firmly believe that Miles did NOT talk to Michigan, his agent did and until they talked to him directly, nothing was set in stone. With their handling of the situation they eliminated Miles themselves and I firmly believe they had a VERY high up person sabotage the miles to Michigan scenario today.

Can you answer my question about what supposedly happened with the team on Thursday?
Posted on 12/2/07 at 12:10 am to supatigah
You are one of the smartest m-f-ers I know, and I'm not even joking. I think that is a great outlook on the situation. I really think that could be what happened.
And why not get a good laugh out of Kirk's balls shrinking a little bit. Haha.

he tried, but ESPN forced his hand. He had to say SOMETHING, and from what I heard of the press conference, he basically said, "get back to me after the game".
Remember, Miles fervently denied any contact with LSU when he was coaching OK state, up till the moment that he was introduced as our new coach. He could have very easily met with Michigan on Sunday or Monday even after ALL of his comments today. He meets with them, they make him an offer he can't refuse, he leaves. BUT, he can't do that now. West Virginia and Missouri have made it impossible. So it's kinda become a moot point.

Michigan said they wanted to talk to Miles officially, Skip said OK, Miles told the team after practice on Thurs that he owes it to michigan to hear what they have to say. rumors surface that Miles told the team he is leaving, which was NOT true
Friday at practice, local media reports privately (and confirmed by Hanny and Gordy post game) that LSU looked like shite in practice and was extremely flat. LSU leaves for Atlanta and when they get there, Miles, Skip and Lombradi meet until late Friday night discussing Miles LSU contract. LSU and Miles agree to an extension and raise in principle and Saturday AM ESPN and Herbie busts a nut and sends the whole thing spinning off out of control. Miles calls the PC to end the rumors and speculation once and for all.

My contention is Miles was candidate A#1 at Michigan until Herbie on Gameday this AM. Miles realized that the people on his side at UM were NOT in control and he knows what he had agreed to in principle with LSU was better than anything he would ever get at UM and he cut bait and ended it all.
On ESPN they replayed his postgame PC comments and he is clearly at LSU for the long haul.

I 100% agree on this, it is out right stupid to say it was done before he even interviewed with them.

I also agree with this

this I'm not sure I buy, like I said this is very risky and could blow up in your face. It very possible, ESPN was just jumping to conclusions, like alot of posters on here.

I suspect some of Carr's big supporters(with his backing) helped sabotage Miles by leaking it. I think Les knew it this morning and that's what ultimately turned him off to the job today.
